Everything You want to know about rod bearings ( with pictures)

This website has everything there is to know about Rod Bearings including measurements and pictures of different examples of it.

https://www.bebearings.com/Overview.html

I have a 08 E93 with 24k miles. I was debating on if I should change my Rod bearings so early. But after reading this, I've decided to replace them STAT.

Thank you for sharing, I've been putting the rod bearings on hold, but in the past month I've been extensively researching deciding with what type of bearings to go with. I'm leaning towards BE but shops in my area have difficulty ordering them as they're constantly on back order.

Very low mileage for an 08. I have an 08 e93 with 103K miles, definitely overdue for rod bearing service lol

Has nothing to do with how often he changes his oil or which oil he uses

Doesn't it? Old oil put threw long cycles picks up dirt and looses its value. Dirt or foreign objects can scratch piston walls cause loss of compression. Type could not properly lubricate and fall off after long shutdown periods where a car is left to sit making your next startup frictional. IMO duration and type are paramount.

Yes, when taken to extremes. But there is no evidence the guy who changes his oil every 3k has longer lasting rod bearings than the guy who changes it every 10k. Or that the guy who uses Castrol or Shell or whatever bmw is selling for oil has longer lasting rod bearings than the guy using redline oil.

I wasn't referring to brand. Type is mega important. Length of use is also mega important. No way around that. Thinking these don't matter is crazy talk.

They don’t explain rod bearing failures on these motors. This has been discussed many times. There is no simple explanation for rod bearing failure on these motors like insufficient maintenance or oil type.
