Given they also probably know how to set a bearing clearance properly, probably double service life of a new S65 from the factory. |

People underestimate how much is going on in the control arrangement for butterfly position. (Assuming this is running on an mss60 *edit for technical accuracy*). Last edited by jcolley; 12-05-2018 at 09:19 PM.. |

@jcolley you think? Seriously, I mean. Most, even the best cannot match, factory reliability and most times a performance build is not designed to do so.
If you're right, that puts this option on a different level for rebuilds or replacement.

I wish I had $25k to spend on an engine for my 10 year old car. I am happy for those who do — 4.1-4.5L with forced induction would make these old cars competitive powerwise with the current performance coupes and sedans.

Very nice builds. Resonable prices too.
Over the last few years advances have been made on this platform: reliable heavy duty DCT transmission upgrades, E85 and fuel pumps, tuning, and the s65 itself, made for FI. I remember when articles were stating that strokers and FI were incompatible. The first few who tried to usually blew up after a while. |

Alusil motors usually hold up pretty well. I would make the assumption that Steve brought the knowledge with him to the new business to bore/hone/expose these properly. I don't think any of these as per the posted specs would be on the ragged edge of reliability, most of it seems reasonable. |

I would put my money on a built engine from a good builder before a stock S65 from BMW any day.
I sooo want a NA stroker. Time to start saving!!

Then there's always the question of what SC to use with it, who's going to tune it, ect. Nobody will be the responsible party should something go south. Not that one can't build a SC stroker but usually it's not easy to corrdinate such a project. |

Curious if you guys can provide some specs on these engines;
1) Rod/stroke ratio 2) Cylinder-to-cylinder wall thickness 3) Any o-rings needed? 4) What tuning capabilities are provided with the engine (if any), software...etc? 5) Piston speed comparison for the stock vs different derivatives of the engines. 6) How much boost is considered safe for each build? 7) Warranty? I looked thru the website, but couldn't find this information, so if I missed something, pls reference it. Thanks for the info! |

I have the E90 S3R.
Just got an oil report back from blackstone, and it isn’t pretty. Waiting for a follow up report before I get too excited. The mileage on the engine is 100,000 km or 60,000 miles, so well within their advertised longevity for built motors. Having 2 M3’s, I had neglected to do an oil change on this one for about a year, because I was focused on the other for resale. Since I now have a baseline, I can trend the concentrations of metals and I confirm any issues. When I purchased the car, I did leak down and pressure tests, all excellent. So in one year, I can’t imagine why I would be even considering rod bearings or God forbid, a head gasket. Anyway, it’s an ongoing process, that I’m happy to share, especially if people are considering the amount of money these engines cost. |
