Vorsteiner GTS-V Wing Blade Installed
Well, I went out on a limb and had a Vorsteiner GTS-V Wing Blade installed on my e92 M3.. I'm going for a "GTS like" look for the car this summer and already completed the front bumper..
https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1512187 This wing was intended to be a direct bolt on replacement for the f82 M4 GTS wing. I installed it on a spare OEM trunk I found on ebay so I could switch back quickly if I didn't like it. I also didn't want to drill holes in my limerock trunk in case the car becomes valuable some day. ebay trunk was mineral white so the body shop sprayed it Fire Orange. I bought the wing from IND along with a pair of Vorsteiner aluminum uprights but no mounting hardware.. The body shop found and made their own mounting hardware and also made a template to mount the wing. Nice carbon work by Vorsteiner. I believe it is available in a 1x1 weave as well but I don't have any problem with 2x2 since OEM BMW performance CF seems to be all 2x2..so anything lower than my roof is 2x2. The Vorsteiner stands are thick aluminum in a slight titanium-ish color and are engraved with the brand. I think the lines of the wing flow really nicely with the curves of the car.. It's nice to see the f82 carries on some of the similar lines from the e92.. I was afraid the wing would be too wide as well but the size seems cosmetically good. The edge of the wing that is bent down follows the angle of the body perfectly. The wing sits slightly higher than the OEM GTS wing on the Vorsteiner stands. The wing will also mount on stock BMW M4 GTS stands too. This will make the wing sit lower but I believe the M4 GTS stands and hardware costs ~$2200 vs ~$800 for the Vorsteiner. That's all the pics I have for now as it's been a torrential downpour here in New England for the past few days. |

Looks incredible and refreshing to see it on an E92 M3.

i like it. looks agressive, but neat. sort of brings a lamborghini look to the car. i'd be curious to see what it would look like just a little bit farther back on the trunk.

If you look at the sample pics installed on the M4 GTS.. the wing is installed quite far forward and it doesn't overhang the rear at all. one more pic in between downpours --mike |

Man, I'm f-ing drooling right now. I've been on the fence on getting a GT wing but after looking at this, all I want is this Vorsteiner GTS-V wing. Now, I looked at iND website and it shows $772 for hardware/reinforcement... Do you know what this is?

I personally chose the matching Vorsteiner stands for ~$700/~$800. It's a couple inches higher than the BMW GTS stands but lower than some of those giant wing stands. The hardware my installer put together himself.. I ended up ordering a few M6x1.00 titanium bolts from dressupbolts.com to make it look a little bit better on the exposed parts. You can also buy the official BMW GTS wing hardware from BMW..which I believe includes some plates and bolts and little things to mount on your trunk. Any authentic BMW GTS part costs a LOT of money though if you can even get it. --mike |

I'm rather surprised how well something that is fairly angular fits in with the very rounded/smooth lines on the e92. The drooped sides and curved top seem to help quite a bit with that. Wings are so naughty on street cars, but your car is pulling it off quite well!

Leemik, care to share on how you installed the Vorsteiner GTS Wings? Like what kind of brackets/screws did you use to install your aluminium uprights?
As i am dealing with some issue with installation for my F82 M4 as i am intending to DIY. From my info that our rear boot (the place to mount on) is CFRP, so i was afraid that when mounting it, it may crack/fly off. As i purchased the wing and it didnt come with any hardware, buying the GTS hardware itself is very costly so I am intending to fabrciate a plate to support it. Care to share on how your workshop that installed for you did it? TIA |

I bought the Vorsteiner stands which are much cheaper and he said he mounted it as far back as he could without cutting the skeleton.. I believe the e92 trunk is all metal.. I'm not sure what screws and brackets were used on the bottom of the trunk.. I think it was either a very small metal plate or just large washers and some bolts he had on hand. There is also some sticky black rubber between the trunk and the wing that provides insulation from water and scratches from metal on metal rubbing. On top, I know that it is all M6x1.0 (~16mm length) bolts .. A nut is not necessary but if you wanted to use one for looks get 24mm length bolt+nut. I recently changed all the top bolts to pretty titanium myself, be careful of the head size though they need to be very small in front of the wing. For f82, i noticed from Vorsteiner's stock images that the mounts are very close the center of the trunk.. perhaps it is flattest and most sturdy there? It is definitely more far forward than it was mounted on mine. Last edited by leemik; 09-25-2018 at 09:37 AM.. |
