I even managed to scrub the body with the steel wool and remove all tar and road debris.

After completing the tips from top to bottom with a wet #0000 I finished rinsing and drying each tip. Once dry, I began to do a once over with a new dry #0000 to get an even finish.
Overall I am very happy with the brushed look. It is nice and uniform and suits the overall look. Tackling the insides was a process of modifying a wire brush used for copper pipes. Although it was more abrasive than I intended, it was actually modified to have the two steel wools I was using wrapped around the end. It made quick work of the inside and gave it an nice finish as well. Having completed one side of the exhaust, I am pleased with the results. I have put approximately 1.5 hrs in so far and I am glad that I have been able to restore them to a finish that was better than I expected. ...

But finally it's all about maintenance , I mean I really wonder how your exhaust tips ended up looking like shit and full of carbon contamination.. My exhaust tips still look like new after 35K miles , probably because I give them a quick polish after every hand wash with this.. Maintenance is the keyword...

Nice work. I'm surprised the steel wool didn't remove the etching.

The laser etching is pretty deep. Although the details are very fine, I feel it would take a fair bit of work to remove it. I would be inclined to say that you would have to go very abrasive. The emblem actually consist of three parallel lines to form each letter and back slashes. I believe this helps to give it a distinct outline. The end result is way better than I expected.

Amazing results given the condition of the entire exhaust before. Also very encouraging to see a V1 MPE with 60k KMs and no issues. Does the car have test pipes as well for that duration?

No test pipes. Primary and secondary cats still installed since new. I will be on the look out for an Xpipe though

Interesting enough, I found that when I wet the steel wool and used it in conjunction with the P21 it made short order of this hard buildup of carbon.
The exhaust is finished and back on the car. I took the time to coat the tips with some Gtechniq nano coat. I am hoping this helps maintain the finish and make it easy to clean. In the end I am glad that I took the time to go through this process. I couldn't be happier with the brushed finish and it goes really well with the overall look of the car.

They weren't chrome to begin with. They were polished. That's how they come from the factory. Considering there is no chrome on the car, I prefer the brushed look. Thanks for the comment. Perhaps someone looking to go back to the OEM finish should consider your suggestion.

Nice work.
I too had polished the exterior and inner tips of my MPE. I used Brasso polish and it worked great. Don't have photos of the before, but it really needed the TLC.

I find the inside of the tips is a constant maintenance item. The exterior is easy to clean and maintain. Let me know
