Official 100-0 braking distance spec. (beats 911 and Cayman S!)
I don't know about all you guys but I love to decelerate almost as much as I like to accelerate. The M3 looks like a winner here! From the official BMW M3 Coupe International Media Launch presentation (available at Autospies) BMW quotes the 100 km/h - 0 braking distance at 34m. It is pretty tough to find comparison data online but I did find this reference for the same test for the Cayman S and Carrera. The M3 beat both, which were tied at 36m.
Of course I know there is a lot more to braking than 100-0 distance, like 200-0, pedal feel, fade resistance, etc. but for a car at this weight this number looks fantastic. |

Agreed. That's solid. More objective data like this will most likely clear up the negativity that followed the recent reviews.

No interest - typical
Well not much interest here in real data and official specs I guess. I know braking is so boring.... Not nearly the drama factor in labeling the car prematurely and imprecisely as "soft".
Thanks lucid for your interest. |

I care about braking too, but with the initial reports of fading and squealing has too much been compromised to achieve the performance? Will these issues drive me crazy? Will I feel compelled to switch pads and lose some performance just to fix them? Without more reviews/data I can't get excited about the brakes yet

Same should be said about your lack of disappointment.

Great find Swamp and very encouraging. I have been very interested in the M3 brakes, as evidenced by past posts. I have always felt Porsche has the best fade free brakes, period. I guess us brake guys are an exclusive club.

just spoke to autozeitung. they say first response and power of the brake is brilliant...but in 2nd lap hockenheim you can forget about them...
...which does not surprise me...my m3e46 even had problems after changing pads to pagid yellow....and now the new car is 75 kilos more on weight! |

34m ~= 111.5 ft.
I was expecting something around 106 ft. Can't remember but I read some magazine article about a sub-super car getting 106. But those glowing rotors are sexy. I love it when they do that! |
