Haha no it was the county sheriff so it the alleged incident took place on the highway. I talked to my buddy who is a cop and also called an attorney, told me the same thing, that I should show up, play the fool and don't admit anything. Called the the officer on the phone today to reschedule the meeting to make it after work, he would not give me details over the phone of the incident. While at work today I just screen shotted and printed all the text messages/ fb messages I have received from my friends over the past few months asking if they can drive my car in case they argue the fact that I would let anyone drive my car when I say the driver seat is more open than a whores legs on my car.

Wow, crazy. Interested to see how that turns out. Obviously your in no danger, but crazy that a cop would even try

I wouldn't show any of that, as names can then be traced back to other people and they can then harass others for the exact same crime.
You may be smart about it and know how to answer, some of your friends may fail under the pressure and admit to being in the car with you when 'said' infraction took place. just my 2cts. ps: I'm not a lawyer, just a pov Quote:

I'm no lawyer, but my understanding is that law enforcement will never give you any more consideration because you were more cooperative. The idea that it will go on your record that you complied and somehow help you in the event of any legal situation is laughable.
I would either: not show up (preferred) or, if you do, just say you do not recall to every question they ask you, and do not say anything other than respond to their questions with that. Remember: anything you say…will be used against you. It will never help. For reference: |

"Steve Barkley of Pebble Beach got a $45 ticket and a photo of his car caught speeding in one of those new and possibly unconstitutional photo-radar speed traps in Campbell. Not to be outdone, he sent the Campbell Police Dept. a photo of $45. Campbell police chief James A. Cost was equal to the challenge. He mailed Barkley a photo of a set of handcuffs. Your move, Steve." But seriously, this.

My guess, someone saw you and called your plates in. This is not quite "pure trolling" as the police are likely attempting to make a case using eye-witness testimony in place of radar/laser evidence. It's not common but it has happened. Sit back and wait for the warrant or subpoena that will probably never come. |

I can't believe this has gone 2 pages. There must be no new rod bearing catastrophes on the board today.

Under the law (yes I'm a lawyer) you have no obligation to appear at any police station and answer any cops questions about anything. You do not have to talk to any cop who shows up at your house or place of work and answer any questions about anything. Unless cop is there to arrest you for a felony, you do not have to go anywhere with any cop no matter how much he wants to talk to you. Whether you are a victim, suspect or just a witness, you do not have to speak to a cop.
I do not recommend that you talk to the police on your own. You don't know what type of situation you are walking into and you do not want to be subject to interrogation and possible prosecution. Your best bet, if you choose to respond at all, is to have a lawyer friend find out from the police what they are investigating and may communicate to the police for you. |

Gracefully assert your right to remain silent if they come a knocking. Otherwise, blow it off but keep in mind someone or something probably triggered them to write the letter. My guess is it is someone in your neighborhood or wrote down your license plate. Let them focus their efforts on someone else.

Update, still at work (Life of a CPA) called the officer that I would be alter than our 7 oclock meet up time, went off on me for being late, saying I am obstructing an officer for being late and it is an order for me to be there (which is BS), should be a fun meeting

I would just show up and tell them I am responding to this letter and see what they say. Your response to pretty much everything they should be "I don't know what you are talking about!"

For clarity sake, there is two types of obstruction -- a physical act such as running away and a verbal act such as lying about whether you were involved in criminal behavior. Not showing up for a suggested meeting is neither. Refusing to give a statement and exercising your right to shut up is not obstructing. You just need to politely ask, "am I under arrest (i.e. free to go), and if you are not, leave and don't engage further. Disclosure -- I'm not licensed to practice law in WI but am in other states including IL
