Apparently, they're also converting the s65tt e90 from a 6mt to a DCT. They're trying out the dodson clutches on both Sticky's m3 and on the s65tt car...maybe thats the hold-up.

That's kind of what happens when you have a donor car. There's lots of downtime.

People act like they put money down as an investment for this kit..
lol.. I am sure if the owner of the car needs it back he could have it at any time, and I am sure his efforts aren't going unnoticed.

This thread is barely 6 months old. Is it unreasonable that a TT kit for the S65 would take 12 months or more to develop? I don't think it is. Honestly, I'd be surprised if it took less than 18 months, if not 24 months or more. That is, if you want to get it right.

Eh, I dunno. I do a lot of work on cars and if it was my business to work on cars for a living I think I could produce a working kit in little time. The biggest thing is packaging and the tuning, but I already have a tuner in mind for that. So to fab up a working kit, I think, rather I know I could design/fabricate and assemble one but again I don't do this for a living and real life gets in the way. |

Final cost also comes to mind when creating a mass produced kit, if final cost wasn't a problem I am sure they would have a kit ready.
I think they are trying to get a prototype to have a reasonable cost before mass producing it. also testing takes a long time, if they just created a kit and put it out for sale and next thing you know people start coming back for blown engines 6 months later that would be terrible for business. If they try to sell the kit for $20k it wont sell too well. you can swap in a V10 for that cost ...

While maintaining a quality kit using top parts like tial turbos, casting their manifolds etc, they are also spending lots of time trying to decrease production costs and making a more affordable kit. But, in hindsight, 2 years have gone by since this project first started, the cost of other FI options and the cost of an e9x m3 have drastically dropped, and the highly mod-responsive f8x s55 m4/m3 came out. So in that same time span that they invested a lot of time and money decreasing cost of the twin-turbo kit, now many customers have the option of going with a much cheaper supercharger kit for 6-7k (compared to 12-13k 2.5 years ago), or have just moved on to the f8x m3/m4. Below I have included the link to the previous thread for your reference: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=849889 Last edited by dvpouldar26; 11-11-2014 at 03:24 PM.. |

Try explaining that to the people spending upwards of $50k on built motor/high power street setups. $20k isn't that much when you consider what you're getting, but the TT-setup is more focused (and will really showcase itself more) on a built motor.

It def would run better with a standalone, strictly looking at the fact you're taking an NA motor and tuning an FI-setup off the factory DME. Adding insult to injury, BMW's DME encryption is NSA level -- Just look at the N54's (factory boosted) and how buggy some of the upgraded turbo setups are.
But especially for a TT-E9x M3, def can't see the factory Traction Control options (Full On, M-Traction, Off) handling the low-end TT-torque very well.

Every driven a turbo car back to back with a supercharged car? They have a totally different character. Personally, I prefer the linear nature of a supercharger, but I understand why someone would want a turbo. A well designed turbo kit makes torque over a very, very broad range.
