Off to the dealer tomorrow...
Well, the car (and therefore battery) is almost four years old. I've been away for almost a month and the car sat without a tender so I had my concerns about the battery. Got home last night, went for a quick drive with no issues. Went out this morning running a bunch of errands, again with no issues. Today's driving did involve some start and stop driving but the issue did not happen until I got home.... Started the car again for one last run to the grocery and this is what popped up on the iDrive on the way home. Have an 8:30 appt, hoping it's just the battery!

^ Agreed, don't have a code reader. Should probably acquire one! Hopefully a quick fix as I am supposed to drive to Houston Wednesday...

Get the BMWhats App for iOS or Andriod. $30 for the OBD dongle and $50 for the app.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I'll check that out! Hopefully something simple like a sensor or the battery... Does make me glad I bought my extended warranty!

No, still under factory warranty until early Oct.! I know these cars are pretty solid but for the piece of mind, the $3k USAA warranty was worth it. This is one situation where I would't mind losing money...

USAA warranty by far the best in terms of after market warranties, but not everyone is like the rest of us and have the pleasure of dealing with usaa.

Thanks though I'm not I'm done... Drove to Houston today and while cruising down I-10 a TPMS warning pops up, not a low tire but that the system is inactive! Pull into the Texas welcome rest area, stopped the car and let it sit. Message still there at restart so I reset the TPMS and it seemed to have reset and solved the issue. Not sure this is related in any way to my first issue but it is concerning. Never seems the TPMS system go "inactive" before...
And no it's not the battery, being almost four years old and knowing I would be on the road I proactively had the battery replaced before my trip.

I'm in the same boat as you.
I started getting random errors, took it into the dealer and they saw the codes in the system but no components were sending out a hard fault. Gave me the car back and everything started repeating again with random code errors popping up (but only when the car had been sitting for at least 2 hours). They had the car all of last week and couldn't find the error. They called up BMW and today they were told to re-program the whole car. And I've been so busy at work this week I didn't get a chance to go into details with them as to exactly what that means... I'm hoping to find some time to call them tomorrow to get more details. And I was about 200 miles from the end of my warranty when this happened... |

$500 for a 7 year/100k warranty didn't seem like a bad deal, especially when you don't have USAA. |

Absolutely agree! Afraid I must admit I was not that forward thinking and only began shopping for a warranty well beyond the 15k mile limit...

I did, tires pressures were fine. What was odd was that the error message was TPMS "Inactive" and when I pulled up the TPMS screen on iDrive, all four tires were grayed out. The entire system went down, it was not a single wheel sensor malfunctioning... Thankfully it reset and is apparently working fine, for now!
