Q: Differential oil part # (E90 M3 DCT)
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me the right differential oil part # for E90 M3 DCT? I had my 1,200 miles service done on my 2009 DCT, and changed differential oil with 83-22-1-467-993, but wanna make sure it's the right fluid. Also wondering whether 83-22-0-406-941 should have been added... related articles: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2813831 http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...&highlight=dct Thanks! theres two oils...one is the castrol oil thats added per the 1200 mile service. then theres another oil which comes in the little green topped liter bottles if your diff makes noise with the new fluid(Which some do and some dont)

Updated diff fluid
Mine just started grinding again at 38,800 mi. in right hand parking lot turns. Diff fluid was replaced last 1/11 at 29,600 mi. My 3/9/12 service invoice (5 days before warranty expiration) read, "As per SIB 33 01 02, checked current oil installed in rear differential. At previous diff service, P.N. 83 22 9 407 768 was used. As per SIB, drained diff oil and re-filled with updated par number for M-Lock differential. P.N. 83 22 2 282 583."
Diff is now quiet. Last update to this bulletin appears to be 07/01/11, so they are using a different fluid now.

Diff Oil
Just had the car in for its usual (FREE) monthly engine oil change (in track season) and they called to say they would do the diff oil service and spark plugs too. Nice people.
I previously had the grinding and therefore replaced the diff oil back at about 12,000 miles. Car now has 22,000. As Greg points out, they are now using a different oil part number (83-22-2-282-583) and interestingly changed it without grinding or my asking. Any other examples out there as I believe he and I both use the same dealer? Mark

Oil to top up with during break In period for my new M3
I am 1/2 down int a 600k trip in my new m3 and have noticed that the oil is now below the 1/2 way point and dropping. Does anyone know the grade of oil that I should get just in case I cannot make it back to a major city or the dealer.
