Another HiFi Upgrade with Technic PnP Harness

Thought i'd throw some pictures up of my install. It's pretty basic, just replacing a stock amp and adding a 10'' Sub. Phase 2 with components and a Musicar like subbox is planned for later.

Hifi Harness wired up to a JL XD700/5, Rear speakers left disconnected for now.

With the trunk lining out, I was trying to figure out the best way to route the power wire from the battery to the amp. I noticed some holes in the rear and thought it might be a good idea to route the wire back there if I can get it all the way across. After 10mins fiddling around, I got it to work with a cloth hanger fished through with it.

The 10'' in a small sealed box I had laying around, this will hold me over until I get a musicar like box to fit over the battery area.

Sounds much better than stock. Took me about an hour to install thanks to the Technic PnP harness. The hardest part was taking out the left side trunk liner.

Been wanting to do this for awhile now. Why may I ask did you not wire in the rear speakers?

I didn't want to go with a two amp setup and the XD700/5 is only a 5 Channel amp. So the fronts and under seat woofers are connected, then the 5th channel powers the sub.

You need the XD800/8 8 channel amp
4 channels for front and rears
2 channels for under seats
2 channels bridged for sub

Kmarei, how do you wire the fronts and rears? The fronts are essentially 3 channels, and the rears at 6 channels.

Yes an XD800/8 would have been ideal but I got the 700/5 at such a good price that I that it wasn't worth it for just some rear fill. The XD800/8 is fairly new and harder to find. I don't miss them anyways. I prefer having a good front stage which will be perfect when I get some good components up front.

The HiFi system is only 2 mids and 2 tweeters for each side, but the way they are wired to the stock amp is in parallel, generating a 2 ohm load per channel.

I think you might be preferring to the EPS system which has a center channel I believe. I'm not sure why you think the rears are 6 channels, there are only 2 mids back there for HiFi systems (early cars also have tweeters, later cars don't)

don't confuse speakers with channels
the fronts in the E92 are 2 mids in the doors, and 2 tweeters behind the mirrors
but each pair of mid and tweeter is 1 channel on the amp
same for rears
so in a hifi car
you would need 2 channels for the front right and front left
2 channels for the rear right and left
and 2 channels for the 2 underseat subs

So sorry gents. I thought this thread was for converting an EPS to hi-fi with the harness. My question is referring to the EPS speaker config.

Sorry again.

Nice, clean install. One thing to consider is to put some rubber grommets where the wires are run through those holes. It would give you a safeguard in case those wires rub against the metal and eventually wear through the plastic and short the wire. It's not likely that would happen, but better safe than sorry.

That's a great idea, I have some electrical tape protecting it, but a rubber grommet would be better just gotta find some that would work.
