Greetings from NJ. Friends getting married in VT. Good roads or sites to check out?
My good friends are getting married and they are having the wedding up in Vermont. Wedding is in Manchester. Any nice twisty roads or sites to check out in VT or perhaps on my way up from NJ. MapQuest says I am about a little over 4 hours away. Never been to VT but I hear the scenery is gorgeous. I am a little hesitant to take my M3 for the trip, but I don't want to miss out on the experience if it's going to be worth it.
EDIT: Along with the Do's, I'll graciously accept the Do Not's (Do Not Eat Here, Do Not Speed Here, etc...) as well Last edited by Ghetto2315; 03-13-2013 at 06:14 PM.. |

And I thought the "USA - NY / NJ / CT / PA" region was dead. This New England one is worse lol

I must say I don't check the regional page too often. I would take the M for sure. Where in NJ are you coming from? You would either get on 87 or 91 depending on how far east you are. Closer to NYC, then take the Merritt parkway up which is always a fun ride. 30, 100 and 11 are fun roads once you get up to Manchester, VT.

I am not that familiar with 7 but it looks like it cuts right through the Green Mountain National Forest. You can always find some fun side roads. I am not sure what shape some of those roads are in after the big floods from Irene last year.
Have a great trip and try and post a few pics when you get back!

Equinox is in Southern VT (At least the Mountain is). Look up RT 9, it takes you East/West from Brattleboro to Bennington. It's a nice road with lots of hills, twists and turns. It's only about 15 mi north of the MA border. I have driven it many times. Both Bennington and Brattleboro have nice traditional New England downtowns and are good for an hour or two of walking around, with some decent places to get something to eat and drink as well.

I'll be in Manchester, VT for the wedding. Any tire shops around Manchester that would carry tires for the M3 just in case I get a flat? The next closest BMW dealer is Keeler BMW about 60-Miles away...

When I picked up my 335i, I went straight from the dealer to Maine for a rafting trip (bachelor party). It was the best possible way to break in the car - tons of fast straights. Definitely didn't follow proper break in protocol!
Not too long after, I went to Burlington, VT for a wedding. I just took 89 the whole way like the directions said. I just remember the more rural parts being 2 lanes and having no places for state police to hide. I don't know much about twisty backroads, but both trips were memorable and I was glad I was driving a BMW! Andddddd just saw this was from last year - you probably already found this out for yourself haha. Last edited by Jayp0d; 03-13-2013 at 08:07 PM.. Reason: I can't read |

Ghetto, you may want to check some of the independent shops to see if one is closer to Manchester, VT. Listing can be found here http://www.bimmershops.com/. As you may already know, outside of Burlington, Manchester, Bennington and Brattleboro, there's a lot of small towns consisting of BB's, shops and farms. If you drove a Subaru, perhaps there would be more options. |

On the plus side (being in VT), the roads are great for driving a M3. Just watch out for some of the LEO's in the smaller towns.

Depends how much scenic driving you're looking for, but making your way out of Jersey and north if you cut east and take some of the Sprain/Taconic parkway it's a pretty decent alternative to I-87 and no commercial traffic, although speed limit is 55 and north of Poughkeepsie enforces that above 65 for the most part (majority of cops run radar though so my V1 keeps me safe most of the time haha) and there are some Staties who hide on blind turns...but if the weather is nice its as a relaxed two lane highway as you'll get. If you take that to the end you can pick up rt 7 and 9 which take you through Bennington. Last time I was on that route I thought it was pretty chill.
Nice thing is VT has fewer state troopers but local cops prob won't be too friendly to a M3 with Jersey plates lol. Good luck |

Surprisingly I only saw one during my whole weekend there and it was in the middle of Manchester Center where it was all traffic lights and traffic circles so you can't do much speeding. I guess I got lucky because I was blasting through some of the roads so loud n' fast that the sheep even stopped grazing and looked

One of my favorites is Bethel Mountain Road in Bethel if you come by way of I89 to Rt 107.... If they were to fix all of the frost heaves on the Mad River Glen road it would be amazing. This road has a ton of switch backs and sharp hairpin turns almost like a mini Stelvio.....
