Competition Package Question
I am coming off my 135i lease in a few months and starting to look at pre-owned M3's. What was the first MY the competition package was offered? For those who have it, is it worth it? Thanks.

MY 2011 I believe but there were several changes made during 2011 and that is where you see folks talking about MY2011.5 and MY2011.75 cars. I think it started with 2011.5 which started production in Sept 2010 but my memory may be off.
I have it and think it was worth it for the wheels and the modest drop it provided. If you were looking to track that's a tough call. Some minor changes that many accomplish on their own with modifications.

The next question is: is ZCP faster than a Civic with a moonroof? |

Ahh yes, the Civic M3 crowd is still a bit sensitive!
And as you can see in the link mdosu provided my memory was off!

It was worth it too me. When you see the rims you know its a zcp 2011+. I didn't want to have many regrets on the most expensive thing I've ever owned. I plan on keeping it stock and for a long time.

Not trying to start a zcp vs non zcp fight, but one thing that turned me off was the wheels. Love the look, but never understood why zcp has heavier wheels than non zcp. I know they're half an inch wider and at the end of the day a few lbs isn't the end of the world, but still. I do like the 10mm drop though.

Agreed, looks are subjective! And frankly the zcp is mostly a marketing gimmick... If you are a hard core track rat you are buying the base M3 and doing your own suspension and wheel mods.

It's only a marketing gimmick in that they came out with new options to keep people interested. For only $2500 on a $70k car, it's a good deal. The special edition cars are more of a gimmick. I would definitely want a special edition, but they are too overpriced for me.

Marginally. I'd want EDC anyway, and if you are going to get 19" rims too, it's kind of an easy call. I could probably do without the drop, as I've had scraping issues at my in-laws house. I do like EDC, and it might be easier finding a competion package M3 than just one with EDC. It would have been nice if the Competition Package was more than a looks package (I know the drop and what-not was supposed to slightly improve lap times, but I'm skeptical). Including upgraded brakes would have been nice.

Totally agree! I have zcp on my 2011 and got it specifically for the wheels and the subtle drop. Wanted the EDC so the choice was easy! Did not mean to imply it wasn't worth the $2,500 price tag...

It's worth it for the wheels and 10mm drop alone for me.

It is a tremendous value for what you get. If you think about the fact that EDC is a $1000 stand alone option, you are essentially getting 4 wheels, a slight ride height drop and a remapped DSC program for $1500. If you like the looks of the wheels, this is a no-brainer.
