Is there any structural difference between Carbon roof and moonroof in M3 Coupe?
I have E92 M3 coupe with moonroof instead of carbon fiber one.
I've always wondered if there is any difference between the two in terms of structure besides weight difference. Please anyone let me know! Thanks in advance for your input |

I would guess probably not, which is why the moonroof version is steel. Both versions would have to meet safety standards in terms of crush strength.

The CF roof is lighter thus lowering your center of gravity. I passed up many E92s in my search for my perfect E92... never found it had to order. The ones with the features I wanted all had moonroofs in which I didn't want. although my reasons for not wanting the moonroof was for the added head room. CF roof adds almost 2 inches of head room and when your 6'9" it counts.

No. The CF panel itself is not a stressed or structural member. It is bonded in place with a relatively light duty non structural adhesive.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but I believe the CF roof saves 45lbs over the moonroof.

Which makes not one shred of difference unless the part is load bearing (i.e. stressed/structural). Again in this case the CF "cover" is not.

I would assume having a sunroof is better when you're taller, you can just stick your head out the roof
