M3 smokes it in every way.... speed, power, looks, interior ashtray... lol.
The 335i actually can't even beat the E46 M3 on the track... according to, I forgot what source. |

Anyone who favours a pedestrian BMW such as a 335i clearly has not owned an M car. I had a 135i and it was a mistake. Those cars lack character. I honestly dislike all non-M BMWs. Nothing notable to speak of. The performance vs price argument is so redundant and pointless. We get it, N54/N55s have more bang for buck in terms of power/mods/etc. Who cares though.
Of course if you live your life a 1/4 mile at a time, I'm sure a 335i modded will do nicely.. lol

Generally, it's pretty stupid comparing 335 to M3 or 135 to 1M. You buy the non M if u can't afford the M. Any attempt to glorify the non M is a lame act. Of the people who buy the non M, my guess is ard 90% couldn't afford the M. 5% are cheapskates who can afford but couldn't bear spending this much on a car. The remaining 5% could afford a M, but genuinely prefers the non M. When i bought my 135, i couldn't afford an M3, but also becos i thought it was too big and heavy. After driving one, it changed my impression and just so happened that i could afford one.

Coming from a modified 335i too, just wait until the break-in is over. It will blow your mind.

I am going to second the fact that this is a very ego filled and pretentious thread.
Of course I drive a 335 so I'm poor, ignorant, and have no meaning as a human being because there isn't an M symbol on my trunk (they did put it everywhere else on the m-sport though) |

Why not just be happy with what you can afford? M or no M, just enjoy the drive and be happy that you are not behind a wheel of a City SmartCar. Damn. Reminds of the diesel forums---"Yo man my cummins will shit all over your duramax"

Yes, i have heard that line regurgitated many times. Don't know how that relates to what i am saying. When people buy cars, pricing and affordability is often the top concern for the vast majority. Nobody said anything about "everyone." I gave a distribution and it's probably off, but the point i am trying to make is that it makes no sense trying to justify something is better just becos u own it. When i had my 135i, i couldn't afford an M3. I never bother trying to say the 135i was a better buy. I enjoyed the 135i tremendously and never felt lousy abt owning it or the need to talk it up. Yes, i agree with what's said: enjoy what u have!

Once again I'll remind we're all here because we are car guys & gals geeky enough to need an additional automotive fix when we are not out driving, or drooling over one car or another. We don't have to agree on everything, but why do we always hate on others that are the most similar but have slightly differing opinions, choices, options, and opinions? Group Hug?

I did not find the OP's original post arrogant at all. I thought it was a very objective comparison from someone who has experience with both. Unfortunately these threads always invite a number of immature responses that accomplish little other than exhibiting the insecurities of the poster. CA

Once we start talking performance, I just don't think the 335i provides the fun factor that's available in other competitors, and much less at a higher price point (say M3 in that aspect).

It's more fun than the G37, S4 - is there something else in that category that can compete?

Owned and put 20K miles on a 335i. Have taken multiple B8 S4's on long test drives in both manual and DSG form. B8 S4 > 335i. Feels more planted. Better ride/handling compromise. More linear power delivery.

Had an '08 335 I put 36k miles on, got a new M3 two months ago. You're right, the M3 is so much better in every way except gas mileage, hard to believe they are so closely related when you drive one.

BMW needs to fix their overheating issues with their FI cars on track. Other manufacturers are not having these issues and it is a BMW problem. Until then, the NA M3 is the car for track enthusiasts.

My 335i was chipped, running on non-runflats but even when stock I thought it positively totally outshines the S4 on the fun quotient. I don't dispute that the S4 may be more "planted", but it isn't more fun for me. Simply put RWD is where it's at.
