Measureable downforce from ZCP spoiler

What do you guys think, any measurable downforce improvement from the ZCP carbon fiber wing?

You might get some reduced lift at the rear...hard to say just by looking.

That will certainly reduce lift compared to stock. The downside is increased drag. There is no free lunch.

Probally but you would need to balance that with increased front downforce.

Correct - but to be honest unless you regularly take your car upto 130mph + speed then you wont notice any difference. For regular high speed driving on the autobahn i think you would need the splitters as well but really this is just a cosmetic mod for a lot of people.

I did some ontrack testing with aero addons on a Fox body Mustang about 20 years ago and I remember when we added a rear wing the car had noticably more understeer in a 80-90 mph corner where we were testing.Once we put a cowcatcher front airdam on it then it was quite neutral and worked a whole lot better.

I'm sure it has some impact. Here's the difference between a stock 335i, M3, and an M3 GTS.

I have to imagine the BMW Performance spoiler splits the difference somewhere between the M3 and the GTS.

ive been noticing pictures of this spoiler more often on the threads...is that the spoiler the competition package comes with?? bc most cmop package m3's i see on here dont have this spoiler..?

Nahh its just an option, and the front splitters and carbon fiber rear view mirrors as well.

I think M3 spoilers/lips are designed to prevent lift; whereas, GTS spoilers/lips are designed to provide downforce.

Appreciate the input fellas. I'm not a huge fan of the looks but if the performance improvement is worth it. I may pull the trigger and get the matching front splitters. I'm curious if I'd feel the difference on the track. I could use a more planted feel.

I doubt you will notice any difference. my earlier 997.1 gt3 with its oem large wing and matching front aero felt no more planted than a C2S although it did provide more downforce and plenty of drag. the RS has a massive wing and generates much more downforce than the GT3 and it is noticeable but only above about the 120mph mark. but if you are talking about a planted feel….i haven't felt anything better. 320kph and you can drive the car with finger tips. forget rear view mirror though. wing entirely blocks the view.

i would say get the GTS wing and front full lip, but i guess that would really stick out on a M3.

Should make the biggest difference under high speed lift ... when you lift the throttle at high speed and therefore transfer the weight to the front. Without additional aerodynamic help, the rear end can get very light and if you're in a bend and/or in the wet, look out. I'd say it's benefitting at over 80 mph. I assume the C2S you drove has the automatic rear wing, so both cars were benefitting from increased aerodynamic downforce and both would feel planted, although not perhaps completely equal. Even small wings have a significant affect at high speeds. Aesthetically, I don't like fixed large wings on street vehicles unless it's far more subtle like an OEM whale tail...wings are too boy racer-ish. You actually get more aerodynamic downforce from an undertray with large diffuser tunnels. The GTS splitter would be a nice addition to any E92 M3 operated at autobahn speeds.

I too was wondering if the BMW performance spoiler and splitters provided down force. This is a quote from the press release:

I am encouraged that BMW did wind tunnel testing. That is a big positive! I want to know that the car will behave properly at speed.

Correct me if I am wrong but many aftermarket splitters/spoilers are just for looks and any down force or lift would be unknown = zero wind tunnel testing. I seriously would be interested if anyone else wind tunnel tested.........AC Schnitzer, Hamman?
