1st track day
i am about a month away from my first track day in my e90 at pacific raceways. I was looking for someone to let me know what to do prior to this day to be fully ready. Im thinking of things to go over on the car(tire pressure, wheel torque etc), the night before as well as any other tips to have the best experience. any help would be appreciated thanks.

Go to the Proformance Racing school site and you will find a video of an instructor going around the track giving you tips. I've been to 4 track days at Pacific Raceways, and my biggest mistake was not studying the track to know "the line" prior to my first session. You need to know where you are supposed to be and landmarks ahead of time unless you are a fast learner on the fly which I am not. I am going with the BMW club next Thursday, and the Alfa club the following Wednesday. Hope it is dry.

okay i will look for that beforehand. Did you do the entire course or just do track day on your own. this is with a morning of instruction then the rest of the day with someone in the passenger seat to help out is what i thought. Does anyone know are wheel spacers a no no for the track also. Also why do you run with the windows down?

Spacers not sure, some people use them.
Windows need to be down for quick access by the emergency response teams if needed. Also, helps awareness. Like the corner workers yelling at you for missing flags, etc.

just was wondering if i should postpone putting on the spacers until after the track day or take them back off before hand or if its not really much of an issue and just run em. Bet its fun running in the rain with the windows open, car will be filthy inside?

I think spacers are ok if they are hubcentric. The windows need to be down for egress if there is an accident. I have gone with the BMW club and the Alfa club. Basically, there is a meeting in the morning where you get paired with an instructor. Then you get four 25 minnute sessions of driving with an instructor. The BMW club has classes A,B,C and D, where the Alfa club has A,B, and C. The Proformance school is a different matter.

this is through park place in bellevue, so i believe its the proformance class. They said its a full morning of teaching then a full afternoon of driving with instructors.

I've heard good reports about Proformance. Should be a lot of fun. I believe most of the Proformance events are on Monday and Tuesday whereas more and more of the club events are Wed-Sat. I have Wed-Fri off so the club events are more convenient for me. I'm getting amped up already about the BMW event tomorrow.

I think you meant "not" enough. Don't foget:
Brake pads: Make sure the pad compound up to the task and that there is enough material to get you through the weekend? You'll want to make sure the fluid is up to the task as well, and be prepared to bleed all four corners at least once during the weekend (so take the necessary tools and extra fluid). There is more, but probably none as important. Side note: If you have time, get the alignment checked before you go. That way, if you discover any unwanted tendencies during the event, you'll know what direction to take for corrective actions. |
