Another option is to use Ceratec to add protection and reduce bearing wear.
A member used Ceratec for a short time, and the Ceratec did already add a thin yellowing coating on the bearing. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1087004 Molyslip E looks interesting. Will look into this chemical. I'm sure MOS2/Ceratec from Liquimoly does do the same thing however.

If any of you are serious and actually looking to do this job in the immediate future, send an email to jay@stancefactory.com
I spoke with him recently and he mentioned offering an introductory price in the Summer. That's where I'll be having mine done when I decide to do it. Of course, there are also other shops readily offering this service as already discussed in this thread.

Here is a quote from Stance Factory
"Thanks for contacting us. We are offering the full rod bearing replacement procedure which includes new bearings, ARP rod bolts, oil pan gasket, motor mounts, 10W-60 oil and filter, and a few o-rings and fasteners for a complete job. You have your choice of bearings; we can use OE BMW, Turner Motorsport WPC coated, VAC coated, etc. It's your preference there. The special price is $2995, parts and labour included." |

Hi guys, I got a few more quotes.
RMP - $3200 with motor mounts and VAC bearings. Bimmersport - $1200 for labor, $200 for oil/filter, plus parts (ARP bolts 585 USD, bearings $580 USD, shipping $80 USD). They said duties/taxes will be applied when they know the amount. My quick math estimates around $3300 Getting one more quote from DC Motorwerx. |

+1. Got my bearings done last month at RMP (VAC and ARP ). I wouldn't trust many others with it. This is based on experience my with other shops. I also did a few maintenance items at the same time (fluids plugs etc) price was more than fair for the work done.

Great thread. I've been looking at getting this done as preventative (2011 w/ 90k) and was greatly considering RMP.
Has anyone coupled this with any over preventative issues that go wrong with our cars? Throttle actuators and DCT pan gaskets come to mind. |

I talked to the M master mechanic at budds yesterday and he said the rod bearings are a non issue. The chances of failure are extremely low and the Internet makes a bigger deal of this than it actually is. Just relaying the info.

New M3 sedan owner here (first post), I'm in for a rod bearing group buy if they're can be one. I love the car but the rod in the back of my mind are keeping me from truly enjoying the car. It might be blown out of proportion but is rather spend the money to get it done (120k kms)

Wow. Was that this weekend (Trillium) at Mosport or a while ago? Any incident on track as a result?

I agree I think there must be something else that caused the failure and it just so happens that they have BE bearings.
For those who have had their bearings changed, curious to know. Would you change them again in the future like a maintenance item now? |

If i were to keep the car long enough , would defiantly look into. VAC,BE,etc. solutions haven't been around long enough to be a proven permanent fix i think. I take these as just more durable bearings, may just last a bit longer then stock.so if i were to drive another 80-100k in this car i would def think about it.

Damn! Look at the colour of that rod! It was definitely heating up real bad! For a rod to turn blue/purple like that, those are temps above 310 Celsius! |

Just did my oil change and wanted to give a shoutout to Stance Factory for hooking up the LiquiMoly "molyslip" additive. Not sure if it's in my head but I swear my car idles a little quieter right now.
