And also my CBS didn't warn me about 1200 miles (or 2000 KMs) first oil service. My car is 2008 production and I know another e92 m3 owner who owns 2009 production car and the CBS on his car didn't warn him for the first oil service.

CBS is just an ALGORITHM folks; that's why you have to reset it. BMW used to recommend oil changes every 3K miles. After paying for service they conveniently jacked it up to 15K. Same freaking engine. As it has been proven by numerous oil analyses, the happy medium lies somewhere in-between. Draw your own conclusions. Have a great weekend.

Ok ok...
We got all the arguing non-sense that is trying to conclude if BMW is being a honest or not. Get to the point and tell us people who would rather be on the safe side.... How we should maintain our cars if we beleive that the 15k intrevals are wrong. For the people who don't.... just get your oil changed at the normal 15k.

My E46M3 asked for service intervals at 2x the normal rate due to all the track miles. I went through Service intervals 1,2, and then 1 again all under 50K. I never performed preventative maintenance the car didn't ask for and the motor was still running like a champ at 70K miles and burning very little oil (for an M3 that is). I'll say the car saw extreme use. With SMG I could keep it near redline for 20min stretches nearly averaging WOT in texas heat.

Anyone who does the 15k services without changes inbetween especially those who drive there cars hard is heading for trouble

The oil condition sensor measures the level, temperature and resistance of the oil to an electrical current. Those are direct indicators of the performance capacities of the oil, not algorithms. |

Very interesting "old" debate thread and read the first page onto the next - OP seems adamant that these lengthy oil service intervals are fine. Well, we all have the right to our own opinions and views, so no problem there.
Personally I feel that these lengthy service intervals are not good for our engines and don't offer enough proper protection for the *extended* life of the engine, so yes, in order for the engine to remain in good health well after the warranty and service plan has expired. For me the problem is not just the service interval in terms of mileage but duration too - 2 years is as far as I am concerned just too long!! If you were doing this sort of mileage per year then maybe, but not over the course of 2 years! At least change the oil then once a year, but ultimately every 10k km. Regardless of how good the oil is, why risk it? Found this just now and thought I would post just for reference. Clearly an extreme case, but why skimp of servicing and risk having this at the end of the day?! BADLY OIL-SLUDGE FOR N52 |

Have no idea, found it while searching google, but I suspect years and years of lengthy service intervals, maybe also lots of short trips.
