To bad you can't test drive an RS5. It will definitely impress you. There are a lot of haters on here, but don't listen to them. Try to find RS5 to drive, whether it be new or second hand. 99% of the car is a step above an E92 M3. The inside of the RS5 is such nice place to spend time.
Really depends on what you want to do with the car. The new Cayman S is a hell of a car as well. Can you live with a small two seat car everyday. Do you track your car on occasion. If so get the Cayman. |

Not sure what you mean by "decent" but I have yet to see any reach that level of asking price. Post up an example or two if you have them.

The car really wasn't developed that many years after the m3. It's been available in Europe much longer than in the USA

I had an E90 M3 and my friend just got a RS5. It is the truth. Only thing I like better on my car was the precise steering. Not to say the RS5 doesn't hold its own in that department either. The RS5 revs to no end, sounds amazing on upshifts and downshifts. Honestly everything you touch/feel/hear in the RS5 is better. Not afraid to say it, the RS5 is a f*cking badass car. I hated on it a little too, until I actually got to sit in one and drive one.

About 3 years (2007 for the M3, 2010 for the RS5 - both first EU model years.) The RS5 also had updates in 2012 prior to US launch that were more than the typical BMW LCI updates.

As it sits, it's a bit quicker in a quarter mile, quicker around a road course, better in the wet, gets better mileage, sounds better, subjectively looks better, has a better interior and is a genuine four-season car if equipped with all-season sneakers (or snows). Seriously, the M3 is a terrific car, and has been a benchmark for years - but the Audi more than holds its own in everything except steering feel. Both these cars are winners, with the Audi edging out the previous benchmark. Bruce PS - as for the Porsche, if your religion involves track days and early Sunday morning frivolities, the Cayman is clearly the beast to own. Otherwise, the Audi is a much more well-rounded car, especially for everyday use. |
