I am not sure what I just watched, but how on earth did an M5 pull 10 car lengths on a stock GT-R. I was expecting it to inch MAYBE slightly once I heard roll race and then read the thread. Maybe the GT-R started in 5th gear or something. The new M5/M6 is very fast but not that fast!
Its not insecure "fanbois". Its making a correction when you are watching something on the internet and dont know all the details.. Id rather be a fanboi with seat experience and know what I am talking about, than someone who rattles off information cause of a youtube video they watched. If any of you actually believe this video and have an M5 ill run you in my stock 2013 GT-R for some cash. Any takers? My 2013 GT-R is obviously really slow. You have nothing to lose. Note: Previous M3 Owner, Prospective M5 buyer.

Plus this video flies in the face of Chris Harris' and Autocars head to head between an M5 and a GTR. BTW, I'm not some Nissan fanboi. I have owned many BMWs, including an M3, M6, and an X6M.

Who cares who wins what when why and where?
If you want a comfy but fast GT get an M6, if you want a Fast Coupe that'll rattle your teeth out get a GTR. If you need 4 doors get "insert whatever fast 4 door here". This is why there are different cars, to cater to different peoples wants and needs. The reality is that they are completely different automobiles. I love the M6 for what it is, and I love the GTR for what it is. |

2. Don't think anyone in this thread (or any thread) called GT-Rs "really slow". 3. Go to 6post and extend your challenge there to actual M6 owners. 4. Film and post the results here. |

And it was a good post because???? 0-150 times mean what exactly? The GTR is faster all the through a quarter mile yet the video shows that the M6 was pulling from the go. Which is why I question it. BTW, C&D is probably the worst car rag on the planet.

Even gtr owners have a hard time understanding that these numbers are achieved with LAUNCH CONTROL. This particular race was done from a ROLL, not a very surprising outcome. The gtr is faster through the quarter mile ONLY because of traction off the line. It's not rocket science.

FYI the m6 is slightly heavier than the m5, and slightly slower.
So m5 basically is identical in performance to m6 But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your BMW fanboyism!

Because it pointed out - again - that it was an M6 in the video, not the M5. Same day, same track, same conditions, the M6 traps 2mph faster than the M5. It's also faster around a track than the M5, although nowhere near as fast as a GTR on a track.
Good indicator of top end acceleration. Simply proves that the M6 is in the same league as the 2012 GTR in a straight line. The GTR is only faster because of launch control. Take that away and it's a driver's race. Who knows, maybe the GTR in that video heat soaked the same way Car and Driver's example did.

Misread the weights, my mistake. They are very close as you point out.
Earlier you +1 a post that commented that the car in a vid was an m5 not m6. My point is that they perform almost identically. Gtr is faster http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...pshTxYWli5wpaQ

I love and want both cars! Both cars are amazing in their own ways. The technology of the GTR is just amazing. The new M6 brings so much style and luxury as well as perfomance as always. The GTR is a monster of a toy on the street and track and the M6 is a beautiful luxury car for a night on the town. No reason to argue fellas. We are all gear heads and love a beautiful well engineered machine.

It's a better indicator of power-to-weight ratio as both cars are geared to top out well above 150 mph. It also takes most of the effects of traction out of the equation.
Quote:
The 100 -150 mph split takes 10.6 seconds in the 2013 GTR The 100 -150 mph split takes 9.3 seconds in the 2013 M6. So as speeds increase, the edge actually goes to the M6.
