I'd really like to know what they consider the issue to be. Seems to be only vague description given here. And as mentioned above, not sure how a rattle could be an issue that can only be fixed on a machine that only the manufacturer has.

Obviously none of us here heard your conversation with BMW. But if it was anything like your tone in this thread then perhaps I can see why they're not accommodating. I find that anytime I'm dealing with a complaint with regards to a service or product that if I treat the person on the other end of the line or over the counter with respect and don't use threats or accusatory tones I'm more likely to get an outcome that satisfies my original complaint. This principal applies to a product or service that could cost as little as a couple of bucks to millions of dollars.
As long as you're respectful, fair and open minded you're more likely to get your issue resolved. Good luck. |

OP, do you have the premium sound system? Took me a while to figure it out but if I press against the door speaker my rattle stops. I figure the speaker itself is rattling or something to do with how it is mounted. Either way, should not be a difficult fix. I would try another dealership, or just pull the door panel off yourself.

"The law requires that if the manufacturer or its representative in this state, such as an authorized dealer, is unable to service or repair a new motor vehicle to meet the terms of an express written warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, the manufacturer is required promptly to replace the vehicle or return the purchase price to the lessee or buyer." So, the question here is: can you find a reference to your problem in the cars warranty? The law also says that the Lemon Law applies to: "..... problems that substantially impair the use, value, or safety of the vehicle." It seems to me that is another way to make your case, i., tie your complaint to one (or more) of the 3 characteristics mentioned here. I second what others have already mentioned - that it is very helpful, in lemon law situations especially, to try and get the service manager on your side. Good luck |

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Yes I have been patient with them it's only when they decided not to come out and check my car and told me to just deal with it that pissed me off. The dealership that I took my car in stated to me that they're on my side and would helP me resolve this issue and I am taking the car to another dealership this week for another opinion. We'll see what happens

Agreed and it gets at my point of stating OP would have been better served working "calmly" with the dealer and friendly SA, as opposed to sounding the corporate alarm to BMW NA..I mean I could understand if they were stone walling him on a tranny or diff..but for something like this?

Hahah uh understandable but it wasn't me that contacted BMW na first. The dealership got BMW na involved first since they couldn't fix the problem. Only started the claim once they blew me off and decided
Not to check my car out. |

Was it rattling or squeaking? I had some sort of squeaking sound coming out of the passenger door's compartment section. My window tint shop even removed the entire panel and we saw nothing behind the door that would make the squeaking noise; in other words, the squeaking came out of the cover panel material itself.
I showed it to my SA that it squeaked from the passenger but not the driver side, and used some sarcastic and joking tone, "I didn't know BMW came with special porno sound effect". Well, yeah, the squeaking sound is exactly reminding me of a cheap porno movie. My SA then scheduled a time with BMWNA and they later replaced the panel. This all happened when I first bought my car two years ago (2011). But overall, BMWNA has the one of the most incompetent customer services I have experienced. I am kind of stuck in between "I love the car" but "I hate the maker". I can't wait MBenz or Lexus come out with something decent and I will ditch BMW in any given day! P.S. to those people who don't think rattling is a big deal, it actually is. Some human ears are sharper than others, and people do get annoyed by unpleasant noise no matter how little it is. I had a Civic Hybrid for commute (for the carpool lanes) before I got my M and that little sucker never rattled a day. It's just ironic that the "Ultimate Driving Machine" is everything but rattle-proof... P.S.2. On another subject, if anyone makes a youtube video about BMW's rattle sound, such as taking the door apart while driving or some hilarious scene, I will definitely do my part to make it viral i(by sharing onto my social networks) in BMWNA's face! |

The vehicle is warrantied against defects. The car is deffective and BMW is in violation of the law for not fixing it. I would start by pointing this out to BMW NA.

may get flamed for this but...
My advice to the OP, document everything.
Get the shop foreman to document on your paperwork what the issue is in detail then contact BMW NA again and point to your warranty. If they don't budge go file an arbitration dispute (if available in your state)...its binding on BMW NA but not yourself last I checked. I think KBB runs it (not that they are an honest organization If you loose arbitration go get a lawyer & try straight up to lemon it...I've seen vehicles bought back over the dumbest things. |

It's so sad to see comments from people that say get arbitration involved. Can people not negotiate and state there position anymore and base there observations on facts, not emotions. Can people not pick up the phone and have a rash conversation with Service Director or General Manager of the dealer? I think arbitration is the very last resort, and I mean last resort I would do. MPULSE has it right, just have some facts and base your case off of facts and not speculation.
I just always been able to talk to people and usually the outcome is positive.

I have great SAs, but to fix it right, I have addressed every extraneous noise myself, as they were never fixed when the car was brought in.

Lol thanks for your input iamlegend, fortunately I have a 535i and a m3 I can enjoy. When I don't want to hear the rattles, I'll go drive my 535i around, lol.
Either way I'll continue to communicate with BMW NA to get this issue resolved. Thanks for all the input from everyone on the thread both good and bad. Last edited by dkballer22; 09-15-2012 at 10:35 PM.. |

Wow, people are really sensitive about this guys door rattle. If there is a rattle, then something is rattling. Find out what is rattling and fix it. It can't be that big of a deal. This isn't some mysterious ghost in the door panel.
Take it to another dealership, tell them you have a rattle... see what happens. If people can fly to the moon and land a spaceship on Mars, I'm pretty sure someone can fix your door rattle. And yes, like people already said, BMW doesn't give a flying f@ck about your door rattle. They sell millions of these cars. Yours is one of them. I know how much it sucks because I had similar issues with my old RRS. The thing had a door rattle and steering wheel wobble that could not be fixed by any dealer. I literally took it in to get the steering wheel wobble looked at about 10 times by 3 different dealerships. Nobody could fix it. New front axle, new tires, rebalance, rotate, new steering servo, new wheels... literally, the wheel wobbled no matter what. I will never buy another LR again despite how much I loved their cars. Hopefully they can fix your problem and get you taken care of...

Very Very wrong. If only I could tell you what they can and will do. Most on here are right it is a door rattle albeit annoying its a rattle. You like the rest of us have paid more money for a car we expect to perform better than a low end econo box or the like. I didn’t get from this you hated your car, just very frustrated. The replies of seeing another dealer are good ideas; see if they have a tech that has come across this before if it can not be determined still ask for the door panel and or speaker to be switched. IF..... that doesn’t work, remember you get more with honey than with vinegar. Like I said before im very limited with what I can say, but BMWNA does step in when needed and will take care of you they do not want to see post like these as much as we really don’t want to post them.
If you still think this is your last resort remember this....Check your state lemon laws first and know the facts (they do). Initial claim date, mileage of vehicle (there is a max), copies of every service ticket, there is a tedious process to go through and your law firm will have to get involved.

I too had bad experience with both US BMW dealerships as well as BMW NA and BMW Canada Customer Support. One can only understand this when one is exposed to it. If I was the OP I would simply find a good dealership and present it as a challenge to the Service Manager by telling him ... "I have a annoying door rattle, some dealership that I don't care to mention the name of does not seam to be able to fix it! You think you are up for the challenge to locate and isolate a simple door rattle?" If that does not produce results I would plan a Vacation up in Canada and tell a similar story to The Vancouver BC Service Manager at Brian Jessel. I bet you, your problem will be solved. http://bmw2-px.rtrk.ca/ca/brianjessel/en/index.html
