Here’s what I’m doing.
I bought an M3 last week and ordered a supercharger. I want a 992 gt3 but I think rates and prices will come down at the end of the year/early next year. So I’ll wait till then to pick up the car and keep the M3. That difference in price for waiting is probably close to half or the full cost of the m3.

i feel like the notion of value is a tough sell in cars, even ones that hold up as well as high end p-cars. i have a buddy with a 991.2 turbo s that track the shit out of his, and another buddy with a 991.2 gt3 that drives it around town and tracks it 2-3 times a year. the gt3 guy hates it around town and moans about not wanting to put it on track because value. the turbo s guy has 20 days on it in the last 18 months. i'm sure the gt3 guy will get more of his money back when he goes to sell, but what's the point? it'll still underperform any true investible asset class and he won't get to use it as intended.

Neither car will be my daily until they….. turn into my daily hahah. Always be like that tho. Find a car you love no matter what you planned on limiting miles you end up just driving it everyday lol. With things that are truly my passion I use them as stepping stones to upgrade to the next best option. Problem is the next step up after the P car is most likely unobtainable for me so I will probdbly end up with a turbo and a gt3 and call it there but hey that’s not a bad garage at all. |

Let's be real for a second. Most of us who have E9X M3 and have aspirations to get a GT3 as an upgrade... we spend so much damn money on our cars already that it almost justifies just getting the GT3. I look back at the numbers on my car often, and yeah, in 2019, I could've gotten a 997.1 GT3... or even my dream 996 GT3.
But now I do prefer my M3 over a GT3, as my use case is mainly street driving with 2/3 track events a year and canyons. So operating costs are much cheaper. I would probably limit myself to just street and some canyon driving if I had a GT3, but I would also enjoy it more on the street, especially for its noises. Although what wasn't mentioned is the 981 GT4... now that's a nice little debate right there. Pricing of 981 GT4s varies, at just under 110K depending on the usual stuff, and it would be close in price to most 911 Turbos. It's still not a GT3, though, but I have a friend who said the 981 filled a void until he could get a GT3... :P

I'd personally avoid going the 991.1 route on the GT3 even with the engine fix due to the flawed engine design.
For me it will be either 997 or 991.2. |

My understanding it was a complete engine replacement. Seems like a fair amount of people got the G series which are “ bullet proof “. But yah if a .2 fits in the budget no question.

Here is another option if you want to keep the M3 - get a manual 911 T, which will get you into the Porsche ownership without the financial burden like the GT3. It will be easier to live with and still get you the 911 thrill. If you are still set on a GT3, you can sell both cars down the road and probably not lose much money. I would not mod the M3, but that’s a personal preference. Unmolested M3s will be sought after in the near future, I have a single hump 2009 with 40K miles…..

I say #3 assuming that you can comfortably take care of #1 to pull off #3 without impact.

I forgot what the most aggressive setting the E90 EDC was set in, but that one. In that seeing the M3 rode worse over rough pavement, a lot worse, so I am not sure what he is talking about. To each his own I guess. GT3's around town are totally fine and actually pretty comfortable. |

M3 EDC is known to be extremely harsh, but yes GT3 ride is actually very well damped. Heck, I drove my friend's 991.2 GT3RS and was amazed that the ride was borderline livable as a daily driver. But the cabin noise of the 3RS is horrendous. Zero soundproofing so you hear every small pebble that hits the underneath of the car.

My take: if you dream of a car and can swing it, go get it! Get it before life gets in the way!
There is always the case where you meet your hero and don’t like what you thought you would. But you can always sell it and get an e9x. For now. Later on, a good e9x will be harder to find. I’m keeping my e90 because tbh, I can’t spend that kind of money with 3 kids near college age. Would I sell my e9x to get a GT3? Hell yes, but it doesn’t make sense financially for me, otherwise I’d already have one. |

I just did something similar last year and picked up a 991.1 gt3 because life is short. Hit the engine lottery after tracking it and now have a G6 engine courtesy of Porsche.
On the other side, I made a deal with my significant other that I would have to sell one of my M3’s .. so now I don’t know which one I want to get rid of .. e46 or e90. |

Keep M3 and get a GT3 if you can. I have both, they both scratch different itches so I really couldn't part with either. I am supercharging the E92 this summer
