e93 m3 vs. e92 335is
ok so title is self explanatory on what the thread will be about. However my question is what would the result be in a race between the two. I mean e92 vs. e92 would be obvious, but will the e93 be too heavy to take on the e92 335is?

The only reason this thread is opened is because a buddy of mine who just bought a e92 335is keeps bagging on my e93 m3 being slower then his car. I wanted to justify this by reading what other users on the forum have to say about it. Yes comparing apples to oranges Is correct, however the last time I checked this section of the forums is strictly for discussions about m3 vs other cars... Hence why I posted it here. If you guys find it difficult to hold your immature sides in then just do me and everyone else a favor and press that X button at top right corner of the screen

Your M3 is faster if driven perfectly. His 335is has more torque and will outsquirt you at times. With a $500 tune, his 335is will be as fast as or faster than your M3. With a tune, intercooler, downpipes and exhaust, his 335is will leave your M3 behind almost all the time if not all the time.
I went through all this recently when car shopping. I would not have bought the 335is, but rather a used 335i. The 3.0L twin turbo has awesome torque and is easily modded. However, I have a 500 rwhp E36 M3 and spend my mod energy on that car and wanted a comfortable and modern and fast and excellent handling daily driver with a CPO warranty that I could leave alone and the E90 M3 fits that bill. With the 335i, I would have wanted a $2500 set of coilovers, a $500 set of roll bars, a $1500 limited slip, a $500 tune, a $1000 intercooler, a $500 intake, a $1000 set of downpipes, a $2000 exhaust, a $2000 wheel and tire package, a $2000 brake upgrade, and a $3500 turbo upgrade. After all that, it would have easily beaten the E90 M3 in a straightline and equaled it around a track. But I would have been tired and the warranty would be void. |

Yes I'm aware of what capabilities the 335i/is have once modded with a chip and thanks for chiming in on it, but honestly my question was directed towards stock vs stock. They are very head on but the e93 m3 still has the edge over it "if driven perfect" |

Use the comparison feature from Fastestlaps.com - looks like the 335is has only been reported for one track - but the E93 did get a better time. Looks like they are indeed close - but somewhat of an edge in favor of E93 M3.

below 120mph, i'd say the two cars are incredibly similar in terms of straight line power...
Friend of mine took his totally stock DCT 335is to the track to see what it would do! It was his 1st time in any car. 335is DCT totally stock 13.1@109

whatever you do on 335i or 135i,they wont be a M car,M car is not design for "Gay" straight-line race,i think most of turbo car modify will beat m3 on straight-line...but u cant modify the feeling of driving a M car.....
