Selling M3, What next?.....
Here's what I narrowed it down to.. Which would you guys choose? Thoughts?
Getting rid of the M3 because it just felt too normal. I feel the weight has gotten to the car and doesn't make enough power to overcome it. Additionally I think the 6MT gearing and ratios were not well thought out. Gears are way to long for this car. 2-4 should be shorter. The gearbox is also one of the crappiest in a car of this caliber. 1. 07 GT3 2. 09-10 GT-R 3. E46 M3 Turbo/SC 4. Save, wait 2 years and 2010 GT3.2 5. E92 DCT 6. 09-10 (Used) E92 DCT + ESS Stage 1

I'd only go for a GT3, either 997.1 or 997.2. That's the only upgrade, to me at least.

Depends on whether you want a track car. I'm hoping for a 7.1 GT3 in the next few years.

Track 5-6 times a year. More geared towards spirited street driving to save my sanity of work 3 days out of the week, canyon hunting and weekend trips up the mountains hunting for curves.

I love how the GT-R has such a quick gearbox, but I don't like everything else about it. I say get the M3 DCT and mod it. But serious mods like brembos and an exhaust.

![]() OP, how about serious mods on your current 6mt like a Dinan rear diff? That should liven things up quite a bit.

I just rode in an HPF stage 2.5 the other day and it was amazing. I knew that it was going to be excellent, but I had no idea it that it would feel be that fast. Literally:
![]() I think we'll get an HPF eventually after we sell the E92. |

I would not get the DCT if you think your 6MT is bad. It's going to drive you nuts with the infamous lag. Either save up for 2 years and wait for the 997.2 GT3 to be in your price range or get the GT-R. The DFI engine is worth the extra dough compared to the 997.1 GT3 (plus the upgraded electronics if you so inclined). However, the GT-R is REALLY big even compared to the M3, let alone the Porsche.

gt3 or RS if you can stretch
also the sharkwerks 500hp package would seem very fun why wait 2 years? we could be in space by that time. But I guess only your heart can know what way to go at the end of the day. |

It's not like your taking a 20K car and adding 20K and be at 40K and have a pretty fun car. This car is already at 60K and then you need another 20 to make it half way more exciting. You then have to deal with non factory engineering, warranty and all kinds of other hassles. Just trying to get some performance style seats in this car already drove me up the wall. 6K for exhaust 3K for diff 6K for seats the list goes on... It's a crappy enthusiast hobbies type of car for modding and a only half decent sports cars. Like I mentioned before, it's too much of a compromise everywhere. BMW knows this and they know they are losing the enthusiast market, hence the need for the M1. Oh and the diff only changes the diff ratio and not the actually gearing. However I do think this car should have come with a 4.1 from the factory. Also the diff doesn't solve the crappy gearbox. I drove a friends Ford Focus and the gear box and clutch felt better. Sorry for the rant. I wanted to love it so bad, we just didn't click like I did with my E46 M3. I did 2 2.5K road trips to try to connect and it didn't work. ![]()
