New York Parking Dents!!
As I live in the city. I park my car in the city.
And of course those non-car loving people hit their doors into my car!! Now I got 2 dents on the side in the first month I got my car... One is just a dent, the other has a scratch as well. Not really noticeable, although I saw it right away. But that's probably because I like to look if the car is still in good shape every time I see it... How fast should I have those things repaired? I mean, should I a. wait till every 5 dents before having it repaired, b. repair it on a regular basis after each dent, c. or just let it be Thanks! A.

Why do you own a M3? Could have gotten 4 new cars for that price...
Well, to answer your question: I like driving. And why not take the best car for that... (within my budget)

No I understand wanting the car it's just in the city it would get beat up too bad for me to justify having one. I don't even drive my car in the rain.

Now I only use it for private trips in the weekend and sometimes evening. And had no rain yet while driving... Driving in the rain could be fun, see how the CBC and stuff work... Well, just me... I almost made a 360 once in the rain with my Porsche trying to do a fast 180...

is this a garage in your building or a parking garage if its a parking garage then make sure to take note of the dings/dents and they should be liable for them... if its your own apartment building see if you could move spots to near a pillar or a wall and park as close as possible to them...also stick a think carpet to the wall or pillar to avoid scratches/dents...eventually I'm going to have to live in a apartment when I get married and I'm going to talk to who ever I have to so I get one of these types of spots... also if you park on the street a lot, its just bound to happen especially w/ the lack of space we have in NYC...and people who just don't care...when ever I drive my car into the city I find a parking garage and tip well before hand...

I can not believe this (very) sad news!!! I will not say more because I can only imagine how upset you are, but my recommendations: - 1) find a better spot - and/or 2) better protect your car (cover?) - and 3) once 1+2 are complete, get you car fixed otherwise you will be annoyed each time you see it (and believe me it is still the case when I see a ding on the door line of my Acura!!). Looking forward to seeing you again on the 4th. Take care.

Congrats - you officially have a "NY bumper"
Find a spot to claim in a corner or next to a pillar like someone said - that's what I do. I'm downtown, so taking the car out during the week is NOT an option. I get around town a whole lot faster on the subway than the hassle of taking out the car. You really don't need a car in the city, you can go weeks without even needing a car on this island. I say - leave the dings/dents alone until something worse happens. You can also get those silly bumper mats people leave hanging out the rear trunk if the issue is parallel parking. |

NYC Parking
A -
I live in the west village / west Chelsea area and park my E90 M3 in my building's attended parking garage. I've found over the years that a couple $20s to the parking attendants when the car is new, and $5 when I pick it up and bring it back goes a long way in keeping my car dent free. I also invested in a set of bumper guards which I put on when I pull into the garage. I have good guys who work in my garage though, and there are a bunch of high-end cars (mine is parked between a Lambo and a 997T). I agree with you - my wife and I use the car on the weekends exclusively, but if you have the means, it makes it so much easier to escape the city (particularly with a dog or a kid). -T 2008 E90 M3 Jerez Black/ Silver, all options "iBeem" |

Right, I live in Battery Park and have a less than average car as well I mean, M5s, M6s, 997s, AMGs... but then the Escalades taking more than needed space... I have my car cornered, so only 1 car next to me is possible. I'll have it repaired... Any ideas on the price of this?? (just so, that I don't get ripped off...) Thanks. A.

my body shop charges me about $65 for a dent that requires some touching up... if its just a dent and does not require any touch up, it should be about $40 to $50/dent...
oh and i feel for you and your dents because i got like 5 dents on my old car just by parking in my condo building over here.

A-
I had my car detailed a few weeks ago by Phil Yiu at Detailer's Domain (He's in NJ, about 25 minutes from the city). He recommended a guy who works on all his cars (911T & RS6) as well as his customers. I'm not sure what he charges, but these things are usually $75 - 100 per dent. His name is Bruno, number is 201-725-0712. Tell him Phil Yiu sent you. I understand his work is very good. By the way - if you are looking for a good hand wash the Chelsea Car Wash on 14th & 10th Ave does a really good job. Don't run it through the machine, but enter the 14th street side and tell the detail guys you want a hand wash. Hope that helps. -T |

I always try to park on the very edge, so at least one side is protected...

I saw the car Saturday and fortunately the dents are very minor and not on the door line!! I nevertheless know how you, Atny286, must be feeling but don't worry, all will be well in the end and your car still looks stunning!!!!
