Paint or Wrap ?
Paint or Wrap?
Finding a USA Unicorn CPO 8 GC in either Mediteranian or San Marino Blue is impossible, so i’m thinking of getting one with either beige or white interior & either getting it painted or wrapped. Dont want an M8, which seems was the only F93 avble with either of the aformentioned blues. Anyone have an idea what the full repaint cost would be in the NYC area at a certified BMW body shop vs wrapping it? Also, if i did splurge on paint, will the previous exterior color matter |

How long do you intend to keep it and where will you be driving it? Also, how do you intend to use it, such as a daily driver?

Re-painting a car is never perfect, and usually is accompanied by a hit to resale value. A factory-quality (or better) paint job will cost $15-20+K, and still produce a resale hit. Wrapping will cost ~$500/panel, or ~$7-10K for the full car (cost of materials comes into play). Wrapping is cheaper, and gives you an option to experiment and THEN change your mind. The downside to wraps and PPF are their fragility. Sooner or later a stone will penetrate the wrap/PPF film, and then your only recourse is to replace the film on the effected panel. Which may, or may not, then look the same as neighboring panels. HTH, a

Some brands of wraps are thicker than others so do your research.

Paint.
You can fix paint. You cant fix wrap. Wrap always looks worse in shorter time than people are willing to let on. Paint.

I passed on a used 2024 M340i at a good price because it was wrapped. The Rolls Royce dealer didn't advertise it as wrapped, so I wondered why the listing said it was blue when it was dark green in the pics (I thought it was a listing error). When I saw it in person, the lackluster finish was the first clue, and then the blue door jams confirmed it. They wouldn't remove the wrap without a commitment to purchase, and I wasn't about to commit without seeing the paint, so I walked away.

I still have some time to find a factory CPO Medt or San Marino Blue that i plan keeping for at least the next 5-8 yrs unless the next 6/8 knocks me off my socks. TBH, I like the styling if the 6GC better but they’re to old now for warranty action. I realize painting the car will not help me when i decide to sell her.

Ill add : - paint if you cannot do diy wrap - wrap if diy. I dont know all market, but here theres not a massive difference between paint and wrap, the labor kill the cost. |

That said it's like Satan (saran) Wrap for me. I end up with more stuck to me than the car.

Am i the only one that got the paint damaged becauee I left the wrap on on top of my car for 3 yrs ? The car sits in driveway which gets alot of sun.
So something to consider as the wrap just baked on my paint |
