2008 6spd 132k rod bearing failure in CT - anyone interested?

Well, my new to me M3 spun the bearings before I got to them. Came with fresh oil and I put 3k on it waiting to change it in 2k mi and send oil to Blackstone for baseline - was going to do bearings then if needed. Ah well, live & learn.

Jerez with blue/silver gut - paint / interior / wheels in great condition, new plugs, 1k mi ContiSportContact+, was a no-lights on car, clean sorted solid, everything works.

Failed doing a 5th gear highway pull, ticking when exited and I shut it right off right as some nominal but audible squealing accompanied the ticking.

Going to auction this week unless anyone here wants it - PM me. Not parting it out: Name: 20260103_170439.jpg

Unless anyone's got a line on a known good motor, reasonably priced...

Ahh man, that truly sucks. Do you know if those were the original bearings? While I will say that my mileage is waaaaaay lower, bearings are constantly in my head.

What's your startup/warmup procedure been since purchase?

I'll keep my eyes peeled for motors available here in NJ (crashed cars, etc).

Zero idea - I'd guess OE but who knows. I'm religious with my car warm-ups. Depending on the car, but I never touch the throttle until the idle settles down, then go easy on the revs and load until oil temp sufficient. Alas, buying a car @ 129k who the heck knows what all the PO's did. Coulda shoulda woulda done the bearings soon as got it - OR - not been a dumbass and done a wicked 5th gear pull putting the hurt on a chap in a new 550Msport lol / d'oh. Live and learn... onward and upward!

Yeah, totally sucks. Loved this car, had it nice and sorted too - really clean and solid. Oh well!

Anyone with rough idea what I can reasonably expect at auction? I have a guesstimate but curious what you all think - please share, thanks.

Expect to get roughly about $10K to $14K at auction for an '08 E93 MT convertible with 132K miles on the chassis and a blown engine. Sorry to hear about your loss, but shoulda' woulda' coulda' got you. I suppose you can always drive the Porsche 911...

Get them done with B.E. bearings and B.E./ARP bolts ASAP.

My gut says you're quite high on your auction estimate w/ blown motor - although I'd love for you to be proven right of course.

Fortunately I own it right which helps, throwing away 1k mi new Conti Extreme's blowz tho.

I wouldn’t exactly call the 930 a heap… Let’s sec what others say you might get for it. Sometimes Google is your friend.

Thanks John - play stoopid games / win stoopid prizes 8)

I'll make it work out (of course), but damn will sure miss having this... I was sooooo thrilled to get another (clone to last) and was reallllllly looking forward to long term with it (I tend to broom stuff after 18mos lol). Oh well!

It needed all 4 brakes, full front end work, and RB's & TA's proactively... so at least I'm dodging that $$$ commitment.

Na, the 930's alllll set up and squared away - get great use out of it, certainly not a daily. I'm dumb enough to have a bunch of cars around... for better / worse 8)

Yup, already Google'd & ChatGPT'd which both confirmed my general / reasonable gut. I SURELY hope you're more correct than I am lol! The car presents *really* well overall inside / out / underhood / etc. so I'm at least hopeful someone steps up for it.

Maybe one day "those" people will finally except that these engines do in fact have rod bearings issues.

I really hate hearing about another S65 kicking the bucket. Sorry that this happened to you OP.

Just a note for next time, please post details in the for sale section, or fb marketplace/autotrader etc. I know someone that has been checking everyday for a blown motor car and never saw this post because it was in the general section.

Sucks man, hope it doesn't dissuade you from getting back into another E9X but I understand if it does!

Well hopefully there isn't a next time! But yeah, a nice roller for a project is quite attractive at that price and would do better here than a random dealer auction. $30k stroker motor and $5,500 for a roller seems like a win!

Yea sorry, I didn't mean just him in particular. Anyone trying to sell something really...

as not marketing it is correctly, you can end up with a much lower price like in this scenario.
