Bimmergeeks Protool - support model experiences?
Hi guys,
not the right subforum I know but wanted inputs on experience from Bimmergeeks product development/request handling rather than the product itself. Been chatting with them over mail regarding implementation of new feature (EDC adaptation reset). They have confirmed this should be possible (they can see the service function available when looking specifically). Apparently the way they develop their product is to do a first implementation on a real car, mine. This would be done remotely. Seems a bit strange that they don't have a pile of local customers cars from development this far but ah well. The communication is somewhat cryptical, no names, no details on plan/procedure. Starting to get cold feet about hooking up an unknown person into both my PC and car via Teamview, and just hope for the best. Anyone who have experiences with the guys and this procedure? Ps. I really like the product so don't get me wrong. Thanks Nik |

Don't have much to comment on Bimmergeeks but...
You don't have any access to ISTA? That's what I used on my unit when I updated to B6 EDC.

TBF it is free... and doesn't require a crazy spec laptop but at least something 8gb of ram and a decent cpu lol.
although the beauty of protools is the fact i just keep a tablet in my glovebox for it haha. but i could do the same with a small 13in laptop.. anyways. as long as you know you're talking to an OFFICIAL protool dev, i don't think there is anything to worry about.

Maybe try posting something in the USA-Southeast regional forum. Perhaps someone local to them would be willing to help out/offer their car. I get why you’d be hesitant, especially with giving someone remote access to your laptop (or if they brick your DME or something).

EDC
Bimmergeeks confirmed that they've got the logic they need to implement. Noticed 3 SW upgrades since, but not the EDC reset yet. Let's see. DCT After various DCT gear box diagnosing (Protool does shine on the sensors they have implemented with the possibility to log selected sensor data and easily send of in a excel file for closer studies). Unfortunately it seems the DCT clutch re learning is not implemented. Yet another standard BMW service item. Initiated a chat with them, lets see what comes back. Or I ad a 3rd tool, Schwaben or Foxwell (still need Carly for some sensors that Protool don't pick up). EDIT June 3rd: Bimmergeeks confirm that they don't plan to implement this. "Anything that takes time and then various movements and checks we stay away from", assumingly as it generate additional support issues. Will try to confirm that Foxwell in fact do the clutch learning and order one (aiming for NT530). Last edited by Helmsman; 06-03-2024 at 07:49 AM.. |

BT is great for keeping in your car on hand to quick diag something, but i wouldn't use it for full system diag.

First time I’m hearing that Carly does something that Protool doesn’t!! Good to know. Wonder if it’s the same with bimmerlink/code. Trying to find a single mobile solution that ideally works best for all.

It does. And you can select whatever sensor you want to read and present at the same time, while with Protool you select sensors per module i.e. parallel reading/comparison not always possible.
