What are you looking for, specifically? I have access to wiring diagrams I can try to find what you're looking for.

It’s a bunch of electrical diagrams (duh) in an engineer’s schematic. I guess I was hoping for more pictures and a wire color key. It just wasn’t helpful for my knowledge level or how my brain works. one of the things i'm hoping to achieve is dumbing this down for other people like me. as i'm getting started with the wiring, i'm realizing it is not that complicated, just complex. the community is very helpful as well, i posted on an instagram story asking about a cluster of 6-7 wires going into the driver's wheel well. couple people responded pretty quick stating which wires did what. the answers are all over the place and i'm hoping to make it less complicated for the weekend amateurs like myself.

Is this a relay for the radiator/engine fan? I assume you don't want to remove that...
I'm gutting my car right now, and I've been weighing nearly every piece I remove with an accurate shipping scale. If you're interested: Complete HVAC system (heater core, blower, controls, wiring, vents, etc) - 23.5lbs AC compressor, condenser, lines - 15lbs All airbags, including control module - 11lbs Bluetooth/telematics module, all antenna modules, full wiring harness for those - 14lbs |

Radiator fan relay, yes. Best to leave that one where it is.

Another question:
I'd like to get rid of this thing on the battery. I have a remote battery shutoff I will install. The battery power cables are obvious, but what about the 2 small connectors that are plugged into it? There's a single wire plug that goes to the negative terminal...Then a 2-wire plug that goes all the way to front into dash harness. Does anyone know what to do with those? |

blue is associated with airbags, and i believe the other is the intelligent battery system primer that fires and disconnects the battery in the event of a crash.

The blue is just the power for the IBS. The two other wires are wake up (R/G) and the control signal from the DME(Blk).
I think there was a pretty major revision to this system at some point, I'm guessing your car is an early car? And that's when the airbag fuse was added, which it doesn't look like you have. That would be a twisted pair going to the BST (big red thing.) I have no idea what the DME will do if the IBS isn't there, I don't know if it can be coded or tuned out. I would leave it in place. The next thing is the main purpose of the BST is the fuses. If you remove it you'll have no fuses on all those lines. One goes up to the starter, one goes to the JBBF, and one is for the radiator fan. Last edited by amg6975; 02-20-2024 at 08:01 AM.. |

certain e9X didn't come with IBS from my understanding, but from my own experience when its not plugged in it was never a good thing. my 1 year old battery went poof when the BMW tech didn't plug mine in and i didn't realize it until i got 1/2 way to laguna with a leaking, bubbled battery in my trunk at the gas station.. lol

Thanks everyone for info. I removed all the airbags so I won't worry about that plug. It's easy enough to run a power wire to the IBS so I guess I'll do that.

Do you have a photo of how it’s wired up? Or a diagram. |

I can try to grab a photo at some point but my car is in my trailer right now.
But basically power in from the battery (going through my kill switch) and then power out is the same as the oem config. Only difference is moving the alternator feed after the kill switch instead of direct to the battery how it is from the factory.

I have no idea the rhyme or reason to what has the explosive disconnect either. My 1 series is a 2012 and had it, the 2013 M3 I bought to do the swap didn't. OP above and you don't. |

I was just thinking the other day about how we could get a real braking system like the F82 GT4 integrated. |
