It did feel like a new car! The interior, like the seats, are still in excellent shape. I was quite excited to get it back after 17 months.

I am happy to report that the E90 M3 is fixed and back in my possession! Very happy to have it back. I installed the new canards today, and I had to fabricate a new air dam for the splitter because the gap from this new bumper is larger. Going to High Plains tomorrow for the first shakedown.

Thanks guys.
I’m really happy with how the car looks. The Honest Assembly guys did a lot of tweaking. I hope it drives as great as it looks! As far as plans, let me get through a successful shakedown and then we can go from there. If the shakedown goes well, I want to do the battery project as soon as possible. Want to get that stock battery out of there. |

Happy to report that the shakedown at High Plains went well. No mechanical issues of any kind. The car just drove normally. Actually it was quite smooth!
It was seriously hot out there today---almost 100ºF. Quite miserable. Oil was getting to 290. And they ran open track today (no sessions) at High Plains which meant first-timers with mellow street cars were on the track with much faster cars.......not a great overall situation. So, I literally did not get a single open lap all day. No matter. I wasn't out there for fast laps. I just wanted to test the car, and I'm satisfied it runs without issue. The only minor hiccup I had was that one of the new fabric panels under the mid-section of the car folded down and was scraping the track. A couple of zip ties took care of that for now. Looking forward, I will probably return to High Plains next Thursday to hang out with fsmtnbiker and a couple other dudes. Then, early October is a NASA TT at High Plains. Then, third week of October, I will return the car to California and start with a PCA event at Chuckwalla. And then, in November, I'll do GTA Buttonwillow. That's as far as I've mapped out so far. So, the next task is to get the stock battery out of the car. The new battery is a VoltPhreaks VPH1200. Would be nice if I could get it in the car before before next Thursday. We'll see. I got so much going on right now. Anyway, I want to thank Cory and the guys at Honest Assembly for all the hard work. The car looks and acts like nothing happened to it. Ryan from Zebulon gave some advice on how to place the canards in a more effective way than before. Appreciate that. So yeah----it's back! Now I just need to get my head together and get back into the game!

The "normal" weight of the car, meaning no stock battery, is around 3085 lbs, no fuel no driver. There are plenty more places to lose weight out of the car---carbon roof, plexiglass rear windshield, wiring thinning, remove dash and center console, cut out the rear deck, little bits here and there that can be cut off. But I don't have any plans to do any of that in the foreseeable future. For now, I just want to get the stock battery out.
While making the car lighter is always a goal, I do have to consider that the car can only get so light if I want to stay in NASA TT1. I can go a bit lighter, but not a whole lot. Tuning the car's hp down is not an option if I want to stay with the VF supercharger tune. I would have to go to an aftermarket tuner which doesn't excite me......

haha the front end had a clear bra on it! The paint was super fresh underneath there!! It had been wrapped right after being painted in 2014. This one will get wrapped as well in a couple weeks. |
