And Yeah... I uhhh... joined the slow Japanese car gang the weekend I sold my e92 in May.
I own a German V8 car still. It just has a gold crest on the front instead of a roundel...

Ok, so help me out here. (I’m sorry I don’t know your story.) Your M3 specs in your signature looked like it was good to go for track use. Did you sell it and get something else for track? Or you’re done with track? And the Porsche is a street car? Or that goes to the track? Or…..help me out here. You’re very active here so it never occurred to me that you didn’t have the M3 anymore…..then I saw your profile thing today.

Haha yeah Cayenne to daily/occasional tow vehicle, and now FRS for a track toy. Loved the M3 but it was time to move-on for mainly costs reasons. 1500/set of tires and the thought of needing 10k put aside at all times for a potential motor if ever wasn't too appealing anymore. A really nice kid from FL bought it and is tracking it a lot out there. I may get another e9x someday but it would be a street car. Right now I'm loving the FRS. Slow, but cheap on consumables and fun to drive. Won't feel too guilty if I put it in a wall since it was only 15k and they are dime-a-dozen to replace. I can still drive it to the track and fit all the wheels in the back. And it's a manual which has been a whole big new learning curve of track driving since I was spoiled by the DCT. I'll probably eventually get sick of 180whp and put a motor swap in it of some sort at some point lol

Cool. As long as you're out there having fun, it doesn't matter what you're driving. Are you going to do a full build to the FRS?

Anyway, enough about the FRS---let's talk about that brisket.....

Actually, for anyone that's curious but isn't getting to Austin any time soon, you can buy Franklin BBQ briskets online and have them shipped. I've heard they're quite good, but haven't bought one yet. I've been enjoying learning to smoke briskets this summer. I have found it very rewarding and I've had some pretty good results, but I have so much to learn.

I bought an Kamado last summer and started smoking if the weekend allows for it. Can toss a pork butt on it and neglect it the whole day and it'll always come out 10/10. A brisket on the other hand is one temperamental son of a bitch and comes out different (for better or for worse) every single time.

Pork butt is next on my list of things to try. I’ve done pork ribs. That was cool. But I’ve mainly been focusing on brisket. hehe I’m surrounded by vegetarians and light eaters at home, so the only way I can justify cooking 15 lbs of brisket is to invite a bunch of people over. So, I’ve hosted several brisket parties this summer. Each time I tell people that I’m either going to serve them half decent brisket, or I’m ordering them pizza if it all goes south…..one way or another we’ll eat something!

roastbeef has made some comments about my transponder pouch being in the way of the airflow on the front screen.....sigh.....ok, I guess I can make you happy.......I moved my transponder pouch fully out of the way of the airflow to the supercharger cooler. I had to remove my bumper to do it.

I even had to----gasp----drill a hole in the solid part of the plastic screen to get it all the way over. My car is even lighter now!

Anyway, Mr. roastbeef, feast your eyes on transponder pouch 2.0! No more airflow obstructions! And...ok....I guess it looks cleaner too.....

Hello, I’m new here and I had a question about some shocks I was looking at for my E90 335i (I know, this is the big boy forum, but your thread has so much more detailed info I figured I’d at least ask). Anyway, I was looking at some Nitron NTR R1 shocks and I was curious if you (or anyone really) knew if they would be worth the $4,400 or not and how they would compare to the MCS set up on your car. I’ll preface this by saying that my car is currently being built to run Pikes Peak and for other track events. Last thing, I read through your thread and you said you moved to Colorado, have you considered possibly running Pikes Peak?

Welcome! I do not have any experience with Nitron. And I don’t know anyone that runs them currently. I hear they are a good brand.

I believe that forum user OG Shark was considering them for his various race builds. (He owns a race shop.) But my understanding is that he is looking in another direction now. Perhaps he could shed some light on his opinions about Nitron.

Pikes Peak is a very tough challenge. I visited the race this year and had a great time because I knew a bunch of people there. (It’s about an hour from my house.) Aside from the 150+ turns and the crazy drop offs, the high altitude in particular presents some unique technical difficulties. My car being supercharged generates a lot of heat and the lack of air makes it tough to keep temps down. I don’t have the proper cooling to be able to do the full run at full pace. For the foreseeable future, I’m happy to spectate and see my friends. My goals going forward are to visit more road course tracks around the USA. I got my first taste of East Coast tracks this summer and REALLY enjoyed that. Now that I have a diesel truck, I’d like to keep exploring more tracks.

Do you have race track experience already?

Now that I own a transponder, I didn’t want it to get trashed by sitting naked on the front of the car. The pouch has done a great job of keeping the device clean and fresh. Have you seen how beat up the Speed Ventures units are? Haha

Thanks for the info, I came across another thread and the people over there had nothing but good things to say about it so I’ll probably end up going that route, as they say - “buy once, cry once”. My experience on a track is VERY limited, however I wasn’t planning on running for a few years, the ultimate goal is Pikes Peak. I’ll be moving back to Virginia around March so I’ll be able to go to VIR to build my skill and confidence. As for the cooling, I’m planning on putting the radiator in the rear so I can fit the biggest radiator I can in it. I’ve seen a few different measurements that put the trunk around 37” wide and the height doesn’t matter to much to me because it will be angled, but I am not currently in the US so I cannot verify that number on my car. Even if it isn’t 37” across, I’ll be removing most of the metal anyway so it doesn’t really matter to me. As for fans, I going to use two of the biggest a fans I can fit on the radiator.

Same here. Now divorced, so the only other meat-eater is no longer in the house. Takes a good 1.5 weeks to kill off a 15# brisket by yourself... or so I've heard

I have not personally run Nitron dampers, nor have I had the opportunity to watch a car on track running them. The guys at Inertia Laboratories seem to be pretty high on them. Might give them a ring and see what they think for your application. They spend their days designing new dampers and rebuilding / improving upon dampers that some of us seem to destroy on a regular basis. I've worked with them many years (back in AST-USA / GrandAm / HVT days). Good shop. Honest guys.

I have a set of Nitron R1's on my FRS from Inertia Lab.
Chris has excellent service and I highly recommend his support.
For a BMW Nitron has their stuff figured out for the platform and they should be really good.
For my FRS they hadn't made many sets and we had to do a lot of R&D for Nitron to get my car setup the way I wanted which involved a lot of extra effort and parts being shipped back and forth to Nitron, but I think that was more lack of knowledge of the FRS in Europe than Nitron's error and they did fix my issues with the help of Chris.
Now that I have everything on my car sorted I'm absolutely loving the Nitrons.
