Swapping pads
Following a recent post r.e. pad build-up on rotors...
So the pad manufacturer's tech department told me that I need dedicated track rotors as swapping street/track pads on single set of rotors won't work. This is obviously an easy solution for them to offer, but not great from the customer perspective given cost ($1k for rotors) and significant time before/after each event for the pad + rotor swap. Reactions? |

The suggestion is the safest option, but not necessary with some track pads. I've never had issues with PFC track pads mixing with street compounds so try those. Other track compounds are more sensitive where burnishing/bedding in the pads to the rotors is much more important.

I've swapped between Cobalt XR2 race pads and StopTech Street Pads on the same rotors without issue.
Does it reduce the life of the rotor? Probably. Did I notice a difference? No. |

This is just a CYA statement because they don't want you calling back up to complain about shitty brake performance. I have seen some pad companies explicitly state that due to similar compounds used in race and street pads, you can swap back and forth without major issues. It isn't ideal, but with proper bed-in and maybe even a Flex-Hone tool, you should be fine.

I have Stoptech and consider self change race pad for next HPDE or tracking event.

Never had an issue. I used to swap at home then bed on the freeway on the way up to the track the night before because the roads were typically empty.
Later on i just swapped at the track in the morning because and my bed in was my first few turns lol
