Sunroof Panel Delete Help

Anyone have experience installing their BW carbon delete panel? Does it fit the cutout without much force?

Asking because the panel I'm working with doesn't. Considerable gap in the rear on each side that looks to be a flaw in the mold such that the angle restricts the panel from fully seating. This is with the front and sides bolted and considerable force (40-50lbs) pushing up from under the panel. You can see it slope down from the middle point to each side with the paper for contrast.

Before I grind or cut the corner, figured I'd check on the the alternative. Starting fresh with time tested BW panel.

I got mine from s2r composites. It actually fit perfect without even gluing it down. He supplies for other companies but not sure if it's for bimmerworld. Can you return?

Hi, when you deleted the panel. Did you have coding done to eliminate CELs related to the disconnected harness?

For those curious, S2R panel (supplier for BW) was a perfect fit and a simple install. Alex was able to turn one around for me inside a week.

Sorry for the late reply, no I didn't bother with it although you can. The only error you get is on startup and it goes away so I didn't bother.

But yeah it's literally a 10.5/10 fit isn't it? Nice!

reviving this from the dead, but what's the weight savings of this? i've got a sunroof E90, and will be ripping the headliner out. it's literally 10x cheaper to do this vs a full panel...

it's like 45lb different between CF and the sunroof option. shits crazy.. and its TOP heavy weight too.

yeah, i've heard that number before, but you're talking about the entire roof panel, right? I'm just asking what part of that do I get if i rip out the guts and the sunroof itself, but leave the metal roof panel with this blank in it. i don't care how it looks, just want the weight savings...

I don’t recall - It’s definitely close to the aforementioned 45lbs with all the related bits removed.

If it’s a track car build (believe you mentioned caging?), I’d just go straight to the carbon roof. Thing weighs basically nothing…

HGK e90 carbon roof from DriftShop is $939. Don’t have to deal with all the import hassle buying through them.

thanks. and yeah, this is for a full track build. my issue with the roof is that i figure it's another $2K in labor to get it installed? i do most of my own work, but not at the "take off the roof and not screw the rest of the panels up in the process" level.

Honestly - It’s tedious work but pretty simple drilling out rivets. But you’ll need to remove front/rear glass. But again, you’ll want this anyhow with cage work.

You’ll probably save on other labor dealing with building a cage with the roof in the way…

huh. that's a good point, i wonder if i can get the cage guy to do it. i'll re-watch that iND video on it, maybe i'm overthinking it.

I've seen my friends E90 switch to a CF roof and it was done in a few days, just really curing the sealant most of the time.. it really is that simple of just drilling out the old roof, smoothing the surface, then aligning with like 4 bolts or something, then bonding it to the metal..(assuming you remove the interior stuff your self) good time to replace wind shield or remove it for cage work DRLane said.

#9 looks like it’s a support for the sunroof.

Actually, I think it's #4. This thread has a part number https://www.m3post.com/forums/showth...1527282&page=2 that comes up as "roof bow" for the E92, and #4 is the "roof bow" for the E90. Cheap enough to try...

You know it’s not needed given you’re caging the car?
