sometimes the people come up to you after and tell you how much fun it was to play 'cat and mouse' with you... and I just wonder if I'm taking crazy pills There is such a thing as playing cat and mouse on the track. I recall the first outing of the CS with RE71s, there was a 6MT 991.2 with R7 hoosiers which passed me twice and I passed twice. That is entertaining. Not giving a pass and talking about 'cat and mouse' means you are brain dead |

you need to get so far up their ass that they think you're going to run into them. 1- you'll be obvious even if they aren't checking their mirrors. 2- they'll let you pass so you don't run into them.

When I went to Thermal, the member who invited us had a GT3RS. After lunch he said "want to ride shotgun for a few laps?" I said "no thanks, I think I'll just keep practicing and learning the track in my car."
Seemed like a normal response to me but the guy couldn't believe I didn't accepted the "opportunity" to ride in a true "racecar." 🤷🏻*♂️ I'll admit I'd rather have a GT3RS than my M3, but it's not like he was asking to ride in a Ford GT or McLaren P1 or something.

All joking aside about the Porshuhs though - the GT3RS is a pretty bad ass car. For casual tracking right out of the box it is pretty amazing & can be extremely fast if pushed a bit (as well it should be at that price tag). Lizard green with all the carbon bits like the one in dparm picture - love the combo. Also drove a Cayman R. Was like a go kart but a bit unstable at higher speeds. Interesting drive. The grip & rotation through the slow stuff was crazy but the quicker stuff it started to get a bit too loose for my liking. And whoever designed the pedal box for that car must have been having a bad day - I have no clue how rev matching is possible with the oem pedals. |

LOL I have a pic with that Lizard Green car too
![]() Also, I have to partly agree with OG Shark's sentiments about the wow factor. Very cool but these days I joke about them being the new "Miata's of COTA" they're everywhere in videos out there I feel like! They are definitely amazing out the box, but maybe almost too good?? A friend of mine who tracked his a bit got "bored" with how good and easy to drive it was and sold it for a 1200whp straight-line GTR for more thrills and is looking for a beater track S2k or something instead. ![]()

Point 'n shoot driving isn't interesting. I'll take a 6/7GT3 over anything.
No hate for GT3's here, just owners that think they automatically got into a higher skill level because they bought one.

It's a lot of car to be pushing the limit with - and I could see someone not wanting to chop the car up to improve the safety - so I could see a bit of stagnation kind of setting in on the track with some people if you get to a point where you are just clicking laps off. Sometimes a step back is a positive. |

The RS is wicked but it just doesn't do it for me. For that kind of money, there's other stuff I think I'd rather have.
They're certainly ubiquitous at HPDEs lately, which is great to see. It means people are out there driving those cars and enjoying them, not just parking them at home. It must drive the Porsche engineers crazy when the fruits of their labor are barely ever realized by owners.

997.1 GT3 for me please. That said. I'm convinced that for a large chunk of money less than one of those costs you could have a M3 that's faster in just about every way.

I need to be better at this if I'm honest. I try hard to stay predictable and out of the way of those that are faster than I am but most of the time I'm trying to get people out of my way and can be too aggressive. Have to remember it's just a track day and not a race. I could just as easily pull in to create space to avoid the risks.

At a past track day, I made a frankly dangerous pass on 2 Miatas going into the Esses at Road Atlanta. Certainly way too aggressive for an HPDE event, and I could've easily waited another 15 seconds to pass them safely coming out of Turn 5. The second I finished the pass, I felt terrible. As soon as the session was over, I followed them to their paddock spot and apologized. They were cool with it, but certainly too aggressive for HPDE. |
