I'm glad I think stock DCT is as smooth a butter, nice and crisp in mode 4 and up...once it's warmed up, even putzing around the city. Delay going into 1st doing a rolling stop and getting out of reverse were the only things I had to get used to which didn't take too long. I had an SMG e46, DCT was a Godsend! I don't get the jerky comments with stock DCT unless it's not warmed up or something is awry.

You have to see the dct as a MT.
What wears the clutches of MTs faster??
Is it faster shifts or slower shifts, smoother shifts or kick in the butt shifts , double Clutching or rougher shifting, shifting at low rpm or ar redline????
And yes the DCT does double clutch esp when coasting in D

As some one said it all depends on the load and how fast or aggressive you are ,the tune make less of a difference here, me thinks .
It's all about how you drive

I always drive in s5 anyway when warmed up so I guess the tune will make less of of a diff for me, but might try it if I get bored of the dct.

Given the large amount of clutch material surface area, wear is unlikely to ever be an issue for cars with stock bhp.
I don't think the highest wear occur during rapid shifts at high rpm but instead happens at wide throttle opening from a standing start where the DCT allows a considerable amount of clutch slip. To offset this, first gear uses the outer clutch which has the larger surface area to handle the extra load seen during "launches".
Myself I don't like the "powershift" kick you get with a too aggressive shift, its never going to be good for drivetrain reliability, plus it feels little contrived - I prefer a seamless shift.

I'm bringing this thread back to life. I recently got the Alex Alpine motor tune and DCT tune. Although the shifting of the DCT tune has gotten noticeably faster and driving in D mode has improved significantly, I'll be honest and say I was not prepared for how hard the car shifts in S mode between 3-5K rpm. It feels like the car is slamming into the next gear. As someone mentioned earlier, it feels like when you rev and drop the clutch in a manual car.

. Feel it in the whole car and was never like that with regular DCT tune. Is this something to be concerned about?

Concerned? It's the whole reason I love DCT now. I absolutely love the shove in the pants that GTS DCT tune gives me. I love it so much that I added a CF driveshaft that makes it even more noticeable. Now I love both downshifting for the blips, and upshifting for the kick in the pants.

Some ppl think DCT shd be so ultra smooth that you don't feel the shifts, like VW's DSG gearbox. I find that totally boring.

I wonder if there is a performance reason for the shifts hitting so hard or it's just drama for the sake of drama? It might even reduce performance if it upsets the car

I've not noticed any issues even on track while at the limit and upshifting at a high speed sweeper. It's not like a clutch kick/drop. Bear in mind quicker clutch release reduces clutch heat/wear at the expense of comfort/smoothness.

The GTS DCT tune has increased performance but it's more about feel and behavior not outright shift speed. It definitely does not upset the car or slow it down in anyway. It's so cool in that its more compliant and smooth when driving normally, but also more violent when pushed. The way it should be.

Love the aggressive shift.

Had the GTS DCT tune on my old e92 ESS650 M3. Seemed to pair better with the added torque. On my now stock e92, the GTS DCT tune was not to my liking.

Here's a brief comparison of GTS DCT tune vs stock DCT tune on an otherwise stock e92 and why I am much happier with the stock DCT tune:

Performance: Launching the car with the GTS tune was terrible. Couldn't manage better than a 4.5 seconds to 60mph. It changes something when the clutches are dropped using the "floorboard method". With the stock DCT tune floorboard method, can do 4.0 all the time. Translates to a low 12 second 1/4 mile ET for the stock DCT tune vs high 12 second 1/4 mile with the GTS tune if you care about that sort of thing.

Daily driving: the GTS tune makes the throttle very sensitive at low speeds and the car "bucks" forward and back creeping slowly in first gear with the throttle applied. More annoying is when you are coasting to a stop and the GTS tune will downshift to second gear and make the car abruptly slow at around 15-20mph. Stock DCT tune does not do this.

Longboarder did you have the pure GTS tune or did you have a tuner version ?

Interesting assessment, can you clarify which stock DCT Tune you are using at present?

Meaning I removed the GTS tune to go back to stock.

I tried an engine tune and GTS tune in different combinations. Tried the engine tune with and without the GTS DTS tune and then removed the engine tune and had the GTS DCT tune and then removed it.

I did some accel testing with the dragy with these different combinations. And evaluated drivability. In the end, I prefer stock engine and stock DCT tune.

Hope that helps.

You should be fully clearing adaptations (ie. clutch torque characteristic curves, slip points, etc) via ISTA after flashing the DCT. Sounds like some of you haven't had that done and thus experience these small issues.

Same goes for a DME flash - always reset all adaptions through ISTA or a program capable of erasing all learned functions.

Also available via Tool32 (C:\EDIABAS\ECU\DKG_90.PRG) using all the following job name and arguments:
STEUERN_ADAPTION_ZURUECKSETZEN using arguments 0xA0, 0xA1, 0xA2, 0xA3, 0xB1, and 0xB2 individually.

Can it be done in INPA or with ECS/Schwaben tool (made by foxwell) - do you happen to know?
