However any metro area will have traffic during rush hour, but traffic in SoCal is on a whole different level. From sunrise to well into the evening, the highways are packed in LA. If traffic in LA was like how traffic is in Aus, I can't imagine how much more people will live in LA (assuming one can stomach the cost of living there ).

Sure, the number of cars on LA roads is much greater than here in Austin, but the average speed has to be wildly higher for anything but the 10 heading into or out of Santa Monica. That about the only road I can think of that acted like Austin roads at rush hour. |

If you refuse to drive, then you'll basically be staying at your hotel and the immediate vicinity as public transportation is pretty much nonexistent. In Houston the traffic isn't that bad inside 610 which is where everything you'd want to see is. There's little to no reason to go outside the loop to suburban hell.

At least Austin doesn't have the geographic and infrastructure limitations of SoCal. LA is stuck with its road infrastructure. Texas has land as far as the eye can see.

I’d be more worried about being shot or something, than a storm. Mission aborted! Good call.

There are no storms in Austin. The only thing remotely dangerous (definitely not life threatening) are hail storms. But the ones big enough to be worth mentioning happen only once in 10 years or so. It may be fun to watch a small hail storm, especially for the kids. |

No you don't. You're not allowed to have guns in CA. LOL

It was on the sheer number of people moving into Austin recently, mostly from CA due to their housing problems, and causing the traffic problems mentioned previously. |

I had a concealed carry permit in El Dorado County, CA, when I lived there. At least when I lived there (2000-2004) it was possible. It was up to the Sheriff though, so it difficulty in obtaining one was kind of capricious depending on where you lived.
Left because of housing prices going nuts and general cost of living. State was going through budget and school issues, wife was a new teacher that couldn't find work, etc. Not being able to own a gun wasn't among my issues with CA. |

Yeah, that's just a stupid thing Fox News likes to say. I had concealed carry in Orange County and now in Texas. Can't say either was any different.
