It's time to lawyer up bruh. Don't settle for less than a full refund or a new M3.
You make lite of the situation and I'm not sure why. I doubt those broadsided by this issue share your nonchalance. To each his own or suppose.

For example, creating a thread called "More rod bearings" before the motor has been torn apart is a little misleading and only perpetuates the cycle. FYI I also have a ME degree and I do recall a class in performance vs wear. You must have been out that day...
The rod bearings ARE bad, along with the mains...because you know, it revs so fast. It's the price we pay for performance cause you know, math...

Because what else is there to do? Feel sorry for you and or ourselves? Anyone who purchased one of these cars after 2013 should have done their due diligence and researched the known issues and failures. The rod bearing issues and engine failures have produced threads since 2009/2010.

Assuming you did research, you accepted the risks.

All you can do now is laugh about it and take out a second mortgage for a reman'd S65 (or go stroker)

Yes. Cuz physics. It's impossible to eliminate friction, it can only be reduced.

I am not arguing that there isnt an issue. No one is. Yeah, actually average rpm does have a large impact on life of a motor. Go find a motor that revs to 8,400 that is flawless or even as reliable as the S65 that you can go grab for $25k. Not many around. Most of them are in race cars that get rebuilt after ever race. This is an issue, and it sucks when it happens to one of us. No one wants to see it happen but it does. A large part of ownership of these is to be aware and have a plan. Whether that plan is to pay the piper if the time comes of to try and stave off the issue early on. I hope you can get out of this situation without too big a loss. Happy motoring

I'm not sure what your point is here. I think we can all agree any car should provide a reasonable service life assuming certain usage. To the extent it doesn't the manufacturer should resolve the issue either because it feels it is the right thing to do or because it is legally obligated. As far as people knowing a car might be a lemon or not see my previous sentence. Below are some bearing tops that came out of this marvel of engineering...

That looks like oil contamination/debris caused most of the wear. That doesn't look typical. Meaning not the bearings, or the cranks fault.

As per your comment about service life... There are alot of s65's rocking way more than 100k miles ( mine included) and if that doesn't fit your definition of an acceptable service life ( of an 8600 rpm engine ) I don't know what would.

So which is it? Either you think the car is pushing the limits and isn't going to last because of the physics and friction or the car is good and last over 100k miles like so many examples. Your all over the map.

To be clear I don't think the car is pushing any limits. Each part is designed and assembled to withstand whatever load its supposed to see and last x amount of time. If it doesn't something went wrong. Unfortunately the consumer can only control a few things, mainly maintenance and usage (overreving). The rest was controlled by the manufacturer.

ok I'm done. You're looking for a pity party and you won't find one with me. Suck it up buttercup and replace the engine. That or switch brands and go annoy another forum.

I'm still waiting for you to put that fancy engineering degree to use and crack the riddle of the bearing issue.

Don't go away so soon! Your thoughts on the matter have been so insightful and your use of brah and buttercup helpful.

We haven't even gotten to the mains yet! I can't wait to hear you say people are fools for not budgeting in for mains, or how a whopping 8600 redline kills them, but some cars last 100k.

These are great cars for advanced DIYers to buy at what are now very reasonable prices -- I think an E9xM3 is a lot of car for $25k.

It's the consumers fault for not doing their research and expecting a high revving engine to not have prematurely failing parts!....

All right friend, we are all heartbroken that your car was one of the faithful few to end life early, but you're going to have to either accept that it was a unfortunate and unfair possibility or actually do something about it other than throw a pity party on a forum.

OP I m sorry for your loss. But as unfortunate as it may sound every single E9X M3 owner should be aware of the RB failure issue by now especially if you are around these forums. There is really no excuse for owning this car without warranty or swapping the RB as soon as you buy the car/warranty expires. Either that or just suck it up, accept your fate and plan for your next move. Folks on these forums will not be of much help if you keep beating around the bush and if you think BMW will take notice if forum members keep ranting and bad marketing the brand, all I can say is good luck to you.

Yeah, I should have done more research before buying it. I didn't realize these cars did this and when I bought it it was still under warranty. I figured it being an expensive car it would have been better built. Live and learn. It's just car and money.

Hopefully the next guy finds posts like this and decides accordingly.

Make that 40K ... if it blows .. then a dinan stroker all the way ... either way it?ll be less than the gt3 (not the rs) which is only one of the two that I would want to replace the m3 with ... the other being the gt350...

Guess I got an affinity for high revving engines that like to grenade ... :-)

It?s funny .... back in 2010/11 when I was doing the research the talk was about mods n rod bearings ... with an overwhelming majority just enjoying their cars .. either stock or modded . 2012 when I got mine was the same story.

Yes ... I did about a years worth of research before pulling the trigger ... no high revving car even back then was without it?s fair share of problems ... figured odds were favorable

2017 ... still the same story ... guess the platform lived up to its reputation. I rolled the dice , kept up with the maintenance schedule except for oil changes every 7-8k miles and keeping my fingers crossed even now

Btw ... this forum was and is still an immense source of useful info as well as paranoia ... gotta take the rose with the thorns I guess ... but I love coming back here ...

Ummm ... no ... even if u would have done a dispassionate research , an overwhelming majority of cars are running just fine with original bearings ... I?m not dismissing the issue just stating the facts ... should rod bearings be an issue ?? Probably not ... are they a wear item on this platform ?? That?s open to debate ... there are a lot of threads with diametrically opposing views with no consistent conclusion. Few cars have grenaded at low mileages but so are a ton of them well into the 100K+ range on originals .. one car in Cali is >250k on originals.. one had bearings pulled at 200+k that showed minimal wear ... everyone draws their own conclusions . Look at the high mileage threads
