What else needs to be changes with motor out of car?

My motor blew up and put a window in the top of the engine (near cylinder 1). I have submitted a claim to the extended warranty company and am awaiting a verdict.

One way or another the motor is coming out of the car and assuming a new OEM motor goes back in the car, what additional parts should be changed during the motor swap process to save on future labor? At this point I am not looking to change any of the internals, lower the compression, or supercharge the motor.

The car has approx 65,000 miles on it.

I don't know if the water and oil pumps are moved over from the current motor or if new units are part of the new factory motor package. Any input would be appreciated from those that know.

Are there any parts I should change out now to save on future labor expenses?

Thanks for the input.

I would buy new motor mounts, they are made of rubber and sag and degrade over time. Cheap part also, LINK.

When I raced, the rule of thumb was that if it was rubber and touched the engine, it got replaced when the engine came out (within reason). So all coolant hoses, rubber fuel lines (back in the day), motor mounts in your case (as suggested), belts, etc. I'd also replaced the WP and Thermostat but I did all the work myself so that's a different ball game. Now, if you can get the place that is replacing your motor to discount some of the labor for installing these parts, then do it. I might be inclined to do the belt tensioners too.

Sorry about your situation.

BTW: if the insurance company wants to put a junkyard motor in the car, can you get them to pay for the shop to swap in some new bearings at least? It's for their own protection, really...

Let us know which company you have your extended warranty with. And keep us updated on how co-operative they are.

Great feedback, thank you! Motor mounts, belts, hoses, thermostat, water and oil pumps. I'll ask about the condition of the clutch plates (DCT - I don't expect any need to replace, but that is why you check it out right?!). Is there anything on the firewall or low in the engine bay that should be checked out? Any suspension rubber that should be checked and changed with the engine out? I've already installed KW Clubsports so that is done.

The extended warranty company is Assurant. Here is a LINK to a thread I started back in 2011 about the warranties. To date they have been great to work with and I highly recommended them! I will update once the claim is approved/paid.

As far as suspension goes, there are no bushings that really need to be swapped since the motor is out. You can do that on it's own.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
