has anybody used this mod for weight reduction in the front?
I was just wondering if someone uses this as well. Its the air conditioner filter. So basically you get rid of all the big plastic parts and OEM filter.
I removed so much weight from the rear that I wanted to know what I could do to remove from the front. Its not much lol about 10-15lbs but at least its from the front. If anyone has any other suggestion to remove weight from the front, please do so!

I'd get water in there from rain, snow, car washes, etc. For a car that is a toy rather than a driver, the BMS filters would work, but there is no need for AC in such a car, so you might as well pull the whole AC to save weight.

I'm curious what you have done to remove weight from the back. I have the MPE - I think that removes 20-25 lbs. What else can I do. Would love to remove 100lb total (without being crazy (like removing rear seats). My M is not a daily driver - an extra (nice day) car for me.

If you are worried about a 10 lb weight loss, how about a gym membership? lol. We're not racing drivers and these aren't F1 cars. Removing a couple of plastic covers won't make your car handle like a Ferrari. There isn't much you can do to reduce weight at the front. The fenders are already plastic. Perhaps a CF hood would save a few pounds. That's it. If you're building a racecar then you can get rid of the AC system, and maybe the headlights.

Probably a lighter battery is on the OP's list. I think if you could get one of these cars down below 3500, that would be a good target.

But its pretty hard indeed to remove weight from the front. I got a lot of weight saved already, only waiting for recaro seats and then thats pretty much it to make a track/street car. Already got that one I actually think that with akra, wheels, seat delete, recaro, you can get around 3300.

Dashboard and all inside the doors would be better. I don't really think that taking away a few plastic will make a difference, but if it makes you feel that the car is lighter......just do it. Who mention body weight?

Great idea, but I would start with useless stuff out of trunk first.
I will probably go with changing out the seat second.

After that, it becomes very tough. Full suspension upgrade should shed another 8-10. Front subframe modification another 8-10. A quality engine build maybe 8-10 lbs. Cowl filters are another 10. Secondary air pump another 7 lbs. This might get you to ~250. A rear seat delete would shed 40 lbs. and get you to 300, but then f/r weight bias may be thrown off too much. |

I've been running those BMS filters on mine for over year without any issues. You get a bit more engine noise, which is welcomed in my book and sheds some minor weight. They are also pretty inexpensive for how long they last compared to stock filters.

Are you planning on turning your car into a full blown track car?
You'll prob save like ~10 lbs, but in the grand schemes of things will you actually be able to tell a difference? I'm sure it won't hurt but I don't know if it will help that much either...Unless you are a pro driver who is chasing every .00001 seconds and trying to shed off every oz of weight.
