Engine Ticking / Bearings / Oil (Must Read)

I may be missing a post but based on the initial read, Belgium is not 38 C, or 100 F today.

It showed closer to 28 C, or about 80 F, today for the area. Not tropical.

I only say this as being in the Southern US, 80 F is very comfortable.

I know Europe has been getting hotter and hotter and watching the F1 qualifying at Hokenheim on Saturday, the weather I heard was humid and some spectators were holding umbrellas, which you don't normally see around in Europe.

Hope the weather will ease up soon. Any plans to by the new M3/M4? I continue to enjoy the E92 and there is seven more years to buy the new car if and when I decide to change. In the past I have always jumped and bought the new one only to have regrets. This time I shall be wise

Weather forecast was Max. 35 ° and my thermometer showed "today" 38.4 ° in the shade ! Yesterday it was even hotter !
Now for the moment it's 03.15 AM on here (Night) went outside and saw 24.6 °!

From what i'm reading and based on the rumors i'm hearing the F80/82 has still a lot of childhood diseases !(deadline was too short)
Best thing is to wait 2-3 years and then we will see.......
For now i'm very happy with my E92 ,just like you

Thank you for the link that I cannot read other than the numbers.

Anyway, it is not a matter of disbelief but more of being realistic. I believe you believe it feels tropical for the few days of unusually warm weather. But as related to places like Florida, you have wonderful weather right now.

Not sure about the various forecasts though.

Doesn't sound good. Hard to say but does sound like a small knock. Maybe it was plugs, dunno.

But I would keep fair up BMW. These engines are notorious ticking time bombs. I think you will find changing oil may be a band-aid fix but not the cure...

Yup! Unfortunately there probably isn't a clear sign other than an oil report indicating wear. As for locally. I've been trying to keep a tab on faliures and they aren't very many. None of my service advisors have come across any. The only one I know of was a fall-line employees car.

Bumping an old thread, I have the same noise and my oil and plugs were just changed. Or so the dealer claims. OP still no problems nearly a year later?

I don't mean to sound negative bro but I suggest you pull your head out of the sand OP! My car is a 2011 M3 and I change the oil every 5,000 myself. My car developed it at 42,000. It's clearly an issue. If you're ok paying >$55,000 for a ticking race engine then have at it. I take care of all my cars and I don't deserve this. My local dealer has denied denied denied. I'm doing it myself and going to small claims court to recoup my money. This is not "normal vehicle operation" and I think BMW should deal with their M customers adequately, which is a "one time replacement". If you can't go 100,000 miles before doing this then they made a shit engine and slapped an over priced cost on it. I feel mislead and fucked over!

The ticking is not normal in your video. Best course of action is to stop driving the car, to not speculate and have a professional in your area you trust or has experience with these cars look things over. However, just because it's a ticking noise out of rhythm, doesn't automatically mean it's bearing related.

When I had my e92 I would go crazy over ticking sounds. I found several causes of ticking that had nothing to do with bearings over the years.
-Spark plug change-If the plugs were tightened just a hair too much, it created a ticking sound that reversed with re-installation of plugs at proper torque. Happened when dealer did it and myself one time until I discovered this.
-As oil ages or temps get warmer, the oil gets thinner. Thinner oil leads to more valvetrain noise and thus an oil change, adding a thicker oil or even adding or topping up oil can thicken it enough to take away noise. Has nothing to do with bearings.
-worn motor mount led to movement in the engine just enough to cause a ticking sound heard when driving slow speeds alongside a concrete wall or barrier. Increased speed with engine speed. Totally resolved with new mount replaced.

People are way over paranoid about this stuff. It happens but it is still a rarity

As the OP was almost a year old I guess his engine didn't blow up after all.
Relax, take a breath and remember, nearly all S65s make a variety of ticking noises easily heard by the LHS wheel well and most rod bearing failures will occur without warning.
