No wonder I haven't seen new sale ads for various forcewerkz products lately. Every thread he had was an ad for forcewerkz. I had posted how he gets his hands on so many of their products, but he never replied

Also nobody mentioned the upper tray. So with shipping I'd pay around 1800ish? For some people paying that much for a rep might be too much and may as well spend a bit more for piece of mind. However if this thing is proven and quality and fitment turn out to be great then it might be a better deal for people. No argument it's cheaper - but is it a bargain or a case of a rep being not even close to the original? The one guy in this thread who has the tray got it for an absolute steal so he'd have to weigh in in whether he'd still do it for full price.

Based on how the side skirts fit and how they lined up to the Platteforme/Downforce ones they are reps of (I placed the rep on top of the original), I wouldn't be surprised if forcewerkz bought a set of platteforme ones to make their mold. I wonder if they bought a varis diffuser to make their undertray.

I'd much rather risk damaging a rep at a track or whatever, than the more expensive VRS piece. Which is why cost matters (to me anyways). I agree, fitment\quality of piece matters more than the above. We'll have to continue waiting for someone to review the damn thing.

Other potential upside, as we've now seen, is also more willingness to trim down the tray to accommodate other diffusers such as Challenge. Very interested to see potential GTV-S with the tray.

I started working on the modification portion of the diffuser this weekend. I did a mock test fit to check clearances. Immediately I noticed a few things. The connecting pipes on my exhaust are hitting the rear portion of the tray. I will have to also modify the exhaust pipe cutouts as well for it to fit. Not sure what would have happened with various other exhaust systems but I assume this is not a problem with the tray but rather my exhaust setup. I think I read somewhere that the real varis also had to be modified for someone else's exhaust too.
Here's a few pics of the tray throughout the modification process. Other observations: (I'm gonna try to be real nit-picky) the weave is not perfect, there are some parts that even I thought could have been much better. When I held the tray up to the sunlight you could see through portions of the tray. I applied a light layer of black touch up paint to the underside to make it look more even. I also touched up the edges of all of the fins with black paint, they all had white residue from the resin I believe. The hardware that comes with the tray is pretty cheap. The screws remind me of self tapping drywall screws. I changed all of the screws to stainless steel Allen bolts with nylon locking nuts and decorative raised washers. The tray feels a lot more sturdy as well now. The tray was cut pretty easily with a Dremel and a cut off wheel. All of the sectioning of the center portion went very smoothly. The tape definitely helped to keep the cuts clean. In one of the pics you can see how much material had to be cutout. It was approx 1/2 inch on each side. After I finished, I gave a quick scratch removal buff which helped to take off some of the light surface scratches. The center section now sits flush along the inside of the challenge fins. My driveway is in the process of being re-paved at the moment so I can't get the car into garage to get it on the lift but I will hopefully get it on the lift sometime in the next several days as they finish my driveway. Stay tuned. Last edited by MRG Race Co; 06-20-2014 at 03:13 PM.. |
