I went to the DC auto show last friday as well. I made a post about the M3/4 being very boring and not really standing out from any other BMW there and got flamed by ppl who havent seen the car in real life. The R8 they had there was badass though and made it worth the trip.
Also +1 on the morons who think this car will be easily tuned and be pushing an additional 100hp. I guess they havent been paying attention to the new M cars coming out. Nothing worse than someone trying to sound knowledgeable on cars when they in fact know nothing. |

But, I also wonder where Gintani is going to fit the turbos on the E9x.

AFAIK, F10 M5 has gotten over 600 whp. Sounds pretty good to me. N55 (on which the S55 is based) is taking to mods pretty well. And it's predecessor (N54) is well respected for making easy power. 700 whp on stock internals, it's limits aren't even known yet. My 335 runs 400 whp/450wtq and has 114k miles (have been tuned about 65k miles). I'm leaving a lot of power on the table by running a conservative tune with no meth, no E85, only pump 93. 30 mpg+ highway. I could be 550 whp with meth, or update my tune, change turbos and go even higher. This is the information I am basing my opinion on.

The R8 is a great car as well, but in a different league price wise. Audi S4 or RS4 would be the competitor to M3. BMW doesn't really have a good R8 competitor, but M6 would be the closest based on price. I would take V10 R8 over M6, just based on looks (haven't driven either).

F8x has two turbos stock. Maybe I am missing your intention. I'm sure it's posted elsewhere on this site where they are mounted, but at the DC show I looked for them and couldn't see them (lots of people looking at the new M3/4). I presume they are mounted in the same spot as N54 (connecting to the downpipes).

I have been interested in cars long enough to know what I like and what I don't like.
i'm sure it drives great, probably +-10% than the E92 but how it drives doesn't change the fact that its over priced. My main point is there is very little difference now between the 435 and the m4 so why am I paying so much more for the m4? and for all those that want to tune it, isn't it better to tune the 435? I mean you are saving roughly $20K between them why not spend that money on the 435 and have a m4 killer? I think it was a stupid path to have them both with similar engines it used to be you had the turbo charged 335, that you could tune to 700hp and you had the 414 hp 8400rpm red line V8 in the M3 very different engines catering to the ricers, and the car fans now its all ricer

Personally I'm Never getting rid of my 08, and my next move will most likely be an M6 or X5M because i'm in love with V8's. On a side note. We all know a Tuner is going to do a V8 swap into the F8X M.

Also regarding price, there has always been an "M" tax why should the new generation be any different? |

These are motors are designed for handling boost... out the box. We all know from the N54 days that they are significantly detuned and highly capable with stock internals. So... I envision the M versions will be no different.

I'm with most of you guys about the N/A engine being the best for track purposes.
Let me ask you this-how many of you on this thread track these cars? I know for a fact that not many do which is a shame. My point is that for those of you who don't track-the new M3/M4 will be faster than the E9x for the driving you do around town + rural roads. My bone to pick with the E9X generation is the Weight + Miserable mpg. Redeeming factors for me-Engine Sound + High RPM's. For someone who averages 4-5 track days a year...my engine is wasted for most of the year (which is a damn shame). On highways and secondary roads-revving the beans out of this engine (to achieve max hp) means I get to insane speeds which for all intensive purposes are illegal on most roads. I can tell you don't know anything about the motor either by your general statements.

its not like a N54 where the boost stock was peanuts. there was a lot left on the table from factory. BMW does not want people to tune these new motors. cracking the code may take a while to get a good tune. If someone ask me. they wanted to buy a turbo car to mod. i would tell them get a GTR. |

Good is pretty subjective but if it's anything like the S63 world, people are doing "good" work there.
GTR vs. F8x M cars is almost apple to oranges... unless you really think the GTR is luxurious and sporty at the same time.
