That is the exact reason why I am contemplating on trading in our X5 for a Lexus RX. You know there will be a lot of electronic issues with BMW once it hits 80k miles +/-...

My M3 is my only car. I'm single and live alone and have one parking spot in LA, so it'd be hard for me to have or need another car. If I could store a second car, I'd keep the M3 for a daily and get a 993 C2S wide MT for a weekend car. I have a .8 mile commute to the office so I definitely don't need a commuter car. |

My daily driver is a ML430 which is kinda dumb because it's also a V8...lol But, it's an automatic which is great in Bay Area traffic!

I keep my cars in Jersey City so I don't have to fight traffic just to get out of the city. 10 min PATH ride out of WTC to Exchange, and I'm on the NJ Turnpike in under 30 min. On a Fri, it would take a minimum of an hour just to get from my NYC garage to the other side of the tunnel. Screw that.

The M3 is on its way, I kept the 04 Accord. I heard having a beater + M3 lowers insurance ? I am thinking of using the honda for any drive under 5 miles and M3 otherwise.

Sure, they'll knock off a bit from the M's insurance, but they more than make up for it in insurance for the beater. At best, you break even.

I kind of hoped for an asnwer like that to sell the honda but I cannot (yet) picture grocery shopping with the M3. Will have to test in practice.

Now I have a 2004 Camry V6. 200k miles and still runs like brand new! The car requires little maintenance, parts are dirt cheap and it just keeps on going. Love how reliable Japanese cars are. To liven things up, I put in KYB sport struts, polyurethane bushings and high performance tires. Definitely increases the feedback in an otherwise very boring car. Hanging corners is fun as well... most people don't expect you to be flying in an stock-looking Camry.

I'm with Geico and I've got more or less 'gold-plated' insurance - $500k/$1m coverage on both cars (and UM) in case I somehow cause a pileup -- along with $250k PD, 80% PIP + 20% Additional PIP -- $10k. Rental coverage, $250/$250 ded. on the M3 and $0/$100 ded. on the Accord. Total insurance cost is only about $950 for 6-months on both. |
