Front license plate, do you have it?
For those that have an M3, well any vehicle really, do you use the front plate?
I have always done what's right in-terms of using the plates but thinking ahead to my M3, I would prefer to not use the front but not sure how strictly it is enforced in MA, NH and VT. |

I use velcro to hold mine on here in NY. Kinda bend the plate to form around the bumper. I do it for all my cars so I dont have to drill holes. They would pull me over in a heartbeat if I didnt have one. Easy money for them if you don't

I use mine and don't mind since I have vanity plates. I know lots of people who shove it in their dash and claim the front plate holder was damaged. I have no clue if that actually works, but I prefer not to drive around with a potential piece of sharp metal shrapnel in front of my face.
I thought about removing it, but I don't want to draw any more attention from the cops...

Haven't used a front plate on any of my cars since 1999. Lived in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Maine. No need really, regardless of rules in certain states.

Just got pulled over by the CHP the other day for no front license plate and they issued a no-cost proof of correction ticket. So ordered the tow hook thingy, will put license on it, show it to the local PD, and take it right off. One of my friends also had the same issue, fastened the plate with some zip ties and then cut them off afterwards after getting cleared by the local PD, but that might be a bit too blatant.

I use the go-mini-go for my car. I don't have time to waste with a no plate ticket.

I have front plates on from us mill work. I already draw too much attention with a red car and tints. Don't want unnecessary tickets from the law.

After being ticketed for not having one, I decided to put front plates on. However, I did get vanity plates to lessen the pain!

Thanks for the feedback all. A high-percentage of my driving is in MA but I live and my vehicle is registered in NH. I have always used the front plate but with the pending delivery (May) of my M3 coupe, this is the first car that I would prefer to not use it. The question is whether the local or state troppers strictly enforces this law or only if pulled over for speeding, reckless driving, traffic violation, etc.

Just put the freaking plate on the car.
Maybe you will get a ticket, maybe you won't. If you are going to be constantly worried about getting the ticket then save yourself the grief and install the plate. By the way, I have the front tag installed on my car. I am fine with it on.

In my many years of driving, strangely enough, I don't have a speeding ticket or traffic violation to my name. Heck, not even a parking ticket. So it's the risk vs. reward for me. For a car like a M3, I do prefer not having the front plate. If the understanding is that in my primary driving area this is enforced, yes I would put the "freaking" plate on. If I do, it is nice to be aware of the options vs. drilling a hole in the front bumper. |

With respect to receiving a ticket for not having a front tag mounted; there is no reliable answer for this question. The explanation I will give here is from my personal experience. Police officers are given a great deal of discretion with respect to enforcing motor vehicle violations. Every violator does not need to be stopped and every violation does not need to be cited. In addition, police officers have different personalities. Some will enforce motor vehicle laws more aggressively than others. Some will tend to issue more tickets than warnings. Others will use minor violations to make motor vehicle stops looking to uncover more significant violations. Also, there is no universal thing you can do or say that will get you out of a ticket. Remember we are real people. We do not live in a 'cop vacuum'. Every officer I worked with was familiar with the "my bracket broke" story, and all the other stories ans schemes out there. I tell another little story since I have some time. A group of us (cops) would go see all the gangsta' movies. We would treat them as training films. We would learn the jargon, mannerisms,, schemes, and ploys. We know that those watching the movie as entertainment would mimic the movie in real life. It would make me giggle a little on the inside when those we arrested were baffled that the cops knew exactly where they were hiding drugs and guns. How many times I wanted to say, "Dude, we watched the same movie as you" Anyway the short answer on the tag thing is: it depends. It depends upon the particular cop, his energy level on a given day, the time of day, day of the week, his supervisors demeanor and instructions, etc. My belief is that if getting a ticket is going to be a constant concern, put the tag on the car and eliminate the worry. Ultimately it is a risk/reward situation and you have to decide on which side offers the greatest benefit.
