H-pipes are generally used to balance frequencies, not for power gains. They are only marginally better at controlling the rasp in the exhaust system. A true X merge collector is the most efficient and power producing method, especially compared to the H.
The Akra does not have the highest power producing Mid-section on the market. There are far more powerful systems out there. Akra has the H to eliminate the rasp.

Do anyone have a sound clip of an H-Pipe installed?
Coming from 2 mustangs, X-pipes are generally known for creating more of a raspy exhaust, where H-Pipes produce more of a deep throatier tone. As mentioned before, couldn't you order a H-Pipe and swap out the stock X-Pipe? |

Not being an exhaust engineer, I have to think the importance of placement both relative to the headers and to each other would drastically effect the performance of an H pipe and X pipe both used alone but even more so in conjunction with each other.
I mean used too close together could produce a equalization of pressure at a point where the x pipe is relying on higher pressure on one side to scavenge or somethiing (just example with no real merit but just illustrate point) |

bit too much rasp
I just done the OEM mod with a custom xpipe, removed 2nd cat/resonator and replaced with solid pipe. And used the original x section. Almost added the h-pipe like the Akrapovic one. But happy at the moment with the sound.
Would like it to be a bit more bassy/boom (but not OTT). Wonder if the H pipe would lower the rasp a tiny bit. Last edited by sylonien; 01-26-2013 at 06:45 PM.. Reason: added video |
