It's got to be the cold start. This morning the wife was pulling the car out, I was behind it waiting - couldn't get in, too little room... the booming of near idle RPM coming out of that thing was deafening. I felt it through and through as well. So it must be tied to the cold start.
Is there a cheap/easy way to do it short of a $1000 tune? I have a Dinan tune on the car already, it came with the car, but still, would be a waste to overwrite it. |

Just had Tom@EAS install my Akra Evo on my new 2013m3 man I forgot how perfect this exhaust is for me. The rev blips and over tone of the exhaust is awesome. Its only loud when you want it to.
for what its worth to others I had ESS take out my cold start and its perfect. I leave super early in the morning and worry about waking everyone on my block up. I have had the evo on my last M and never had one complaint. I would love to have the eisn race exhaust but just isn't in the cards for my block at this time so evo is perfect for me.

Akra evolution with GT4 x-pipe
Please allow me to state first – I am sorry to ask these questions, but all of my searches did not give me the answers I was looking for.
My questions are How much louder will the Evolution exhaust be with the GT4 X-pipe? Assuming the OP has the X-pipe with the two 100psi cats and the resonators. Would the evolution exhaust be too loud with the GT4 X-pipe (no cats and no resonators), meaning noise levels like the Eisenmann Race, RPI, Kreissieg with valves open, etc…? I have found video clips of the GT4 x-pipe paired with other mufflers, but not with the Akra mufflers. I am also considering to take the cold start out for the cat less setup. |

My Akra has akra midpipe with 100cpi cats.
I agree the sound is great when cruising/accelerating, but the deep tone in underground garages is earth shaking. When driving with windows down, I can feel vibrations in my chest in an undeground. |

If it really starts to bug you and you have the adapters to mate the rear section to a stock style midpipe, get a set of Turner (or the recent clones) test pipes. Power difference is pretty small and you'll end up with heavier gauge stainless steel tubing. I found it to be a quieter solution at low rpms than the full Evolution system. Very similar from a tone perspective - less hollow sounding in the car.

Love my Akra Evo from EAS. Best mod ever. It is a lot louder than stock but not as loud as some competitor systems.
When I first purchased the system (my first exhaust ever), I initially regretted the decision based on the increased volume. After a few weeks I fell in love with the sound and just love the aggressiveness. You do attract attention with it but it is manageable with gentle acceleration. Garages/tunnels/underpasses are now my favorite places to enjoy the Akra Also you can't beat its quality construction--truly a work of art and weight savings too. |
