Question about the M key covers
I have a $20 Amazon gift card to blow.
With these covers on, is it easy to hit the lock button with the cover on? Or do you have to take the key out? http://www.amazon.com/BMW-Genuine-Ca...ds=m+key+cover

I don't see the point of this cover. A friend has it, his car being the 10 M3 with comfort access, so he rarely takes the key out. but putting in his pocket, in his bag etc etc it's an annoying piece.

i have it. Since I have comfort access, it's mostly a cosmetic piece. The major downside is the screw sometimes comes loose and everything falls apart, so you need to check the screw and tighten it once in a while.
To answer your question, I tried to push the buttons through the cover, it's not very direct. If I need to push the buttons, I usually flip it out to push. Now the question is, do you really need this? Not really, but I don't drive my car everyday, and that key is in my bag and this sleeve prevents the key from getting all scratched up. It's very durable and I've had it for over 2 years now. |

Another option is these guys: Www.thejacketstore.com.
Got a nice yellow one for Mrs. MMME30W's Honda, fits pretty well.

OK, I guess I'm missing something here - does the car lock itself from a distance? I thought it had to be locked manually, but unlocks automatically.
Sorry, first BMW with comfort access and the car I bought was missing the owner's manual.

I dunno if the car locks automatically. Be curious if anyone knows. PS Owners manuals are available on www.bmwusa.com under the Owner section.

Looked in the iDrive and couldn't seem to find a setting for that.

Not even sure it is really a setting. I recall that my car will lock after a set period following an unlock IF you have not opened a door. If you unlock and open a door, the car will not automatically lock again. Was the same way in my '08 550...

^^^ That would be perfect with an M logo of some kind.

OP, I never found a reason for the cover at first but now I have it, it's pretty useful. My last key got really banged up by being with other keys and what not. More importantly, I wear suits all the time and I don't like the pocket bulge so I don't have all my keys in my pocket. If I leave just the fob in my pocket, I feel like I might lose it. The cover is perfect for countering this.

The doors will not automatically lock with CA. There is an auto lock feature on the car. The setting is for when you unlock the car, but don't open the door, the car will then automatically lock back up in a period of time. This feature is useful for us OCD ppl who can't recall whether we accidentally pushed the unlock button. there is also another auto lock feature where when the car start moving, all unlocked doors will automatically lock. |

I can see how it might be annoying. I use one so I can tell the M key from the other BMW keys in my key bowl. This is what I call a "First World problem."

You should always lock the car with your door handle sensor. |
