If the dealer was to update my car because of DCT lag, does whatever tool/software they use, update the whole car?
EDIT: It appears my question was answered in the above post. My bad.

If it was updated for the lag awhile back, it's unlikely that you will have 231E. However, you will be on a software version that is on par with 231E. |

so is it "safe" to assume that a may 2011 (2011.75 build) car should have the latest version?

Unless I'm confused, Mike checked mine like a month back and said my software was super old. And mine was built on 12/11. I think he said mine was 40 or 41. On that same post he suggested that 231E came out around version 45.

I think you were on v40 or v41 just based on how the file looked in your navigation system. We didn't hook it to the factory machines to see the version as it was a matter of checking if it was retrofittable on the current level your car had. It's surprising that your car was built on 12/11 - I would have expected to see the connected drive functions in your navigation system. Based on some research I just did on integration levels, I think that your car could have software from around April of 2011. This seems a little far out considering your car was built months later. Since BMW blocked the programming of BMW Apps as of v43, it's possible that you were on v43 or higher and that those lines of code simply do not show up on later software versions on cars without bmw apps. I find this unlikely, but wouldn't completely rule it out. I never checked your DME software level - can't comment there. To be honest, without plugging in and checking more in-depth, I can't give you a definitive answer on it. In terms of 2011.75 cars, they should be coming with 2.43 at minimum, so it's possible that 231E is not in there. Probably 220E which is what I have currently in my car, until I flash it with 231 later today. 2.45 was released most likely in late November, if your car was built a month later I wouldn't be surprised if it had 2.43 or 2.44 - not sure how they roll in the updates at the factory when the car is built, just when they are rolled into the dealerships. I hope this helps some, and yes - it is very confusing at times because there are so many different integration levels and nuances that play into this. Would appreciate the config file if you have it. I had a dyno run yesterday by my BT tool app wound up not recording the session...

Basically the same. ~20 deg cooler and still only 309. Only other change was rubber (had my AD08s on this time.) Waiting for the run files and will post them up.

Has anyone dyno'ed a 220E vs. 231?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Let me repost again. IF you have an '08 that hasn't been updated in the last 1.5 years. Do it now! Just got it done. WOW! Changed my whole driving experience. Braking pressure (peddle feel), Suspension EDC, engine, DCT all feels much better overall. And yes it does feel faster but I still haven't had a chance to get on a dyne to see the gains.

Yes, gains were very minimal - about ~5-6hp. Too close to call.
Biggest gains will be seen on early builds (>180E), that have never been updated. Quote:

Getting my baseline done this week. Just replaced the plugs, car runs smooth as butter. Awaiting a drop in filter also. Software update this weekend, and then another dyno. Unfortunately I don't have EDC, so I won't notice a suspension change. Fortunately, I don't have DCT, thank god.. |

That's a bummer. You updated the software and re-dynoed correct? IIRC, you have very old plugs in there? Maybe try that next.

BTW, bank-1 and bank-2 are the same thing. The values in bank-2 are the same as bank-1. PG's BT Tool config file can be downloaded here: http://www.rcollins.org/public/Bavar...estWithIAT.xml The config file will data log the following items: * Engine speed * Induced air temperature bank 1 * Throttle valve actual value bank 1 * Actual gear * Ambient temperature * Lambda actual value before catalytic converter bank 1 * Lambda actual value before catalytic converter bank 2 * Angle of ignition cyl 1 Credit: The config file above was originally given to PG by Bren @ Bren Tuning. PG added the IAT logging. |

No software update yet. I wanted to run anther dyno when I had a "control" car there for comparison to show there was no issue with the dyno or operator. Unfortunately the other guy never showed up so I just ran mine again to see if said the same thing. I've ordered the plugs and will try one more time to get the dealer to upgrade the software gratis otherwise will have Mike do it.

Please help me clarify this dyno sheet from the first page.
There are three dyno measurements here; Blue, Orange, and Green Do I assume the following configurations? BLUE: Old software + Evolve Tune = 349.74 HP ORANGE: New Software w/o Evolve Tune = 368.34 HP GREEN: New Software + Evolve Tune = 372 HP Is it also safe to assume that this was tested with 91 Octane ? Thanks! |
