Front plate tickets be gone!

Not quite "no holes" but I don't mind.

Plate mount was present in the picture included here:

Suprisingly this is the first car I've had that I have not gotten a ticket or even a mention about my front plate or dark tints from LEO...Not once, even at check points, driving past LEO shooting radar etc...**KNOCK ON WOOD**

If I was in my Evo, I'd have cops pulling U turns on crowded roads to write me up for my lack of front pate....

But before my luck runs out, I want to get the motorized version of what you posted about...Do you have a link or source where I can buy a motorized plate mount???

How fast have you driven with that on? I wonder how it'll hold up to speed in the long run.

Also, do you plan on running the front plate up when driving and just hiding it when parked? Motorized makes more sense to me so you could drive with it hidden too, but cool product nonetheless. This is the first time I've seen one like this on an M3

Yep same here. A lot of higher end cars around here don't have front plates but the rice mobiles are A target. I've gotten in trouble a couple times with my civic way back in the day. It also helps that I wear my seatbelt so no excuse to get pulled over. However if you run into an Equipment Checkpoint I think a ticket would come but can easily be overturned.

Driving with it up isn't recommended but I've done it. It was hard to get into the habit of putting it away before driving. I did some hard braking to make sure it doesn't slide out when I'm on the road. FYI - It's drilled into the underside of the bumper and the mesh is notched.

I considered the motorized version but didn't see the point. If a cop pulls me over for not having a plate, I'm not going to press the button and tell him to check again. That would end badly.

This solution is mainly for the meter maids who love to charge me $25.00 for "no display of front plate".

Yep, in NY equipment violations can be fixed within 24 hrs and dropped...Do other states do this too?

We can fix the violations and pay $10 in CA.

However, (and a big however) cops have refused to sign-off when the mount isn't drilled. I had a cop pull on the OEM mount to verify it was drilled into my e46 bumper. He was right. It was affixed with double-sided tape.

Oh man, that would drive me insane....but assuming you have factory bumper paint or just good after market paint, you could use automotive 3m tape on two clean surfaces. LEO can pull all they want, but when you attempt to really take it off, it's gonna be a b*tch...

This is the option I was looking at (with a hidden switch somewhere in the interior):

Motorized, Retractable License Plate Holder

I have no front plate, and my rear plate cover (and week license plate lights even makes my rear plate very difficult to see unless your directly behind it.) It also reflects the FLASH from red light cameras giving big brother a "white out" look that is unreadable if I was to ever rush under a yellow or accidentally turn right on a "no right turn on red" intersection...

Thee following pics are without a flash and Unedited (aside from to increase picture quality), and as you can see from pics 1, 2 & 3 even from a few feet away it's tough to get an accurate read of the plate.

(Con't in next post...)

Con't...

However, If you are stopped by LEO, during the day (or at night), your plate is clear and won't cause an issue...

Haha.. Just wait.. I had no tickets for 4 years and then got 4 or 5 in a week.

Just my luck..

In fact, a couple weeks ago parking enforcement took the car cover off of my E46 M3, ticketed it, and then put the cover back on. I couldn't believe it!

Wow, what a d***k, took your car cover off lol, unless he had evidence that the car was unregistered or something, that might me a violation of the Constitution under reasonable search and siezure clause. Unbelievable...

But Oh man, I should've said "knock on wood"!

I wonder what the cop would do if he pulled me over for no front plate and then suddenly it was there? Im guessing he would write another ticket just for being embarrassed...

Years ago, I had the "Quicktime Performance aka QTEC" 3" Exhaust cutout valve on my Evolution 8 mated to an HKS 2.75" Down-pipe...

Obviously the car was as loud as a cigar boat! I did get pulled over for it once, and while there was a trick to get the butterfly plate to close properly I closed the exhaust, which put the exhaust through the OEM exhaust and mufflers...

He told me he pulled me over for exceeding decibal restrictions and modified exhaust system or something like that...I told him it was a mustang next to me and he asked me to rev my car up...

After him hearing my silent exhaust, dazed and confused, im sure he felt like an idiot...I cant remember if he wrote me other tickets or not but it was hilarious...

Was considering doing it with dual 2.5" valves after I supercharge the ///M. (But hoping they fixed the flaws with the valve)...
