Help! Advice Needed About Wheels!!
Hey guys, I bought my m3 in canada and i'm planning to purchase a set of wheels from a board member who is located in the US. The wheels come with the rims and tires but no tpms. I was told before that the canadian versions of the m3 does not require tpms; however, the set of wheels that i'm purchasing doesnt come with the air valve so right now i am wondering what I need to purchase in order to even inflate the tires. Many thanks!!

Congrats on the new ride!
I'm assuming if the wheels have no valve stems the tires are not mounted at the moment. If this is the case no biggie. Any tire shop can install new vavle stems before they mount your tires. As for the TPMS if your car is a Canadian car you do not have TPMS you have FTM which does not require sensors as the Canadian cars meassure the pressure via the suspension (or something like that).

Canadian cars use wheel speed sensors to determine if tires are low as tires with different pressures will differ slightly in rotations per km. As far as the wheel package is concerned, TPMS is attached to the valve stem. Without TPMS, chances are the wheels have a normal valve stem. Nobody would mount tires on wheels without valve stems, it would be impossible to seat the tire bead on the rim.

The seller wants to keep his tpms so he can use them with his new set of wheels. So as of now, I only need to buy regular valve stems? I dont need to buy anything else? Here is a picture of what the rims look like

Yup, all you should need is a decent valve stem and you will be good to go!

Does anyone know if "no TPMS" is true for the Canadian Competition Packaged M3s? I was thinking to order the oem black gts wheels from the US and I am unsure if I need to order a new set of TPMS with the wheels. Any input would be much appreciated!
Thanks. |

Could you report back if everything works out fine Seven7? I'm thinking of picking up a set of wheels through the States as well...

I finally picked up my wheels last weekend and I had them installed no problem with normal rubber stem valves. I was running on stock 18" and all the screws and locks were the same fit for the ZCP 19" too. It's good to go!

Yup! no tpms!. If you look at your own OEM wheels, they use rubber stem valves. The guy at the body shop said the tire monitoring system is somewhere else in the car.

Weird, why don't the Canucks get TPMS?
